2025 NBC Sunday Night Football Schedule: When former Alabama and Auburn players scheduled
(upbeat music) - Good. - Do you feel better about that? (person laughing) - I do feel better about that. Well, actually. - [Observer] He's still not happy. - I'm being for real, ain't nobody out wide. (person laughing) You got somebody uncovered right here. I mean, I don't know what's going on. Yeah, that's better. What's going on guys? I'm Jalen Hurts. Today I'm gonna talk about what my diet looks like and how that influences my training. (upbeat music continues) I think an excuse people always tell athletes is you work out a lot, you're always moving around a lot so you can eat whatever you want. There's some truth in that. I think you have to have some discipline as well. And what I try to incorporate is a good amount of fish, a good amount of steak and a chicken and protein. Your three bases. It all varies in what I put into my body. (wind whipping) Throughout the season and where I'm at. (wind whipping) I keep it consistent. In terms of portion and everything I keep it consistent from practice days to training days to game days. (upbeat music continues) Game day eating consists of (wind whipping) tons of water, one (wind whipping) one to two protein shakes, a lot of fruits, (wind whipping) a lot of turkey. In the mornings, (wind whipping) a lot of eggs, whether they're scrambled light (wind whipping) or over easy. Turkey bacon and maybe a carb or a potato or something or some toast one of the two. But I try to keep it light in the mornings and I try and keep it light for lunch. Consistently a salad, (wind whipping) whether it's a Caesar salad or Cobb type salad. For dinner, it's those proteins that I'm talking about. (wind whipping) In terms of protein, I keep it very consistent within the big three (wind whipping) fishes, chickens and steaks. Pretty open to vegetables. (wind whipping) I like to try a lot of different vegetables. And then I do manage the carbs in the off season, depending on how much running I'm doing. (wind whipping) Carbs fill you up. I think as an athlete, you don't wanna walk around feeling too heavy all the time. And so I don't necessarily eat to get full. (upbeat music) No, no Kryptonite you find the sugars in your drinks, (wind whipping) in Gatorades and avoid the ice creams. It's tempting at times, but it's self subscribed. (upbeat music continues) In the office we spend a lot of time in there coming up with the game plan and we eat a lot of sunflower seeds, so that's our thing. A nostalgic remembrance of my childhood playing baseball and being in the dugout and stuff. So they've done me well. (wind whipping) I wanna say my D-line coach's wife makes us cookies after wins, he gets 'em for the D-line room. Somehow I found myself (wind whipping) getting a bag of cookies as well and we kept winning and he kept 'em coming. So sometimes I'll indulge, sometimes I won't. (wind whipping) (upbeat music) I don't see it as a cheat. I see it as more so a reward. Butter Pecan ice cream Blue Bell. (upbeat music) (wind whipping) It's changed. As I've gone through my career I've learned the importance of diet and how it can affect your body and how it responds to certain things. So whether that's your vibe, what you put in your body, that affects that. I say knowing how my body responds to certain things, I think that's the most important thing as an athlete, I know how my body responds when I eat too many carbs and I know how it responds when I don't eat any. (wind whipping) (upbeat music) I think the off season diet is important because that's the time you preparing yourself for the season. In the off season I take out carbs outta my diet 'cause carbs is a big supply of energy. I go through these phases where I'm not running as much. And so it's fuel that I don't need. And so it also keeps me slim as well and have better control over my body. (upbeat music) What's harder, the diet of the training? Training, this is where the work is done. Both of them are training in an element. (wind whipping) You have to train yourself to eat the right things if you want the results. You also have to train, actually put the work in, foundationally, it changes over time as you get older, 'cause as a kid, I used to be outside playing basketball and instead of going to the water hose, I'd sneak inside to go grab a cup Kool-Aid and play off of that. (wind whipping) So not doing that as a professional. (upbeat music) Favorite family recipe, crawfish. (wind whipping) My father got it from my grandfather (wind whipping) and I now carry the torch. I don't mind telling you. It's pretty hard to replicate. (wind whipping) You have the base, (wind whipping) your Louisiana seasonings, (wind whipping) you can put anything in it. The secret is to make sure they're clean. (upbeat music) My last meal on earth would be crawfish. (upbeat music) My comfort food? (laughing) I say my comfort food is (laughing) you don't know what I'm thinking, but I'm about to say it. My comfort food is a fresh batch of chicken. Fried chicken. (Jalen laughing) (wind whipping) Yeah, fresh out of the grease. Thanks for watching, I hope you learned a little bit about my diet and my training. (upbeat music)
