COMING UP IN YOUR FULL FORECAST. ALL RIGHT. THANKS, JORDAN. THE FIRST DAY OF WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES COMPETITION IS OFFICIALLY OVER. THE LAST SOCCER MATCH WAS SCHEDULED TO FINISH UP MINUTES AGO AT THE HOOVER MET. SEVERAL EVENTS HAPPENED AT THE MET TODAY IN 米兰体育 13. ZOE BLAIR WAS THERE TO SEE THEM IN PERSON. ZOE, YOU鈥橵E MET A LOT OF THESE ATHLETES. WHAT DOES THIS COMPETITION MEAN TO THEM? JOHN THIS EVENT BRINGS FIRST RESPONDERS TOGETHER FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. AND WHILE MANY OF THEM TELL ME THEY鈥橰E EXCITED FOR THAT COMPETITION, THEY SAY IT鈥橲 THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE IT REALLY WORTH IT. MANY OF THESE ATHLETES HAVE COMPETED COMPETED IN PREVIOUS WORLD POLICE AND FIRE GAMES, MAKING FRIENDS WITH THEIR COMPETITION EACH TIME. SOME OF THE FOLKS COMPETING IN THIS WEEK鈥橲 GAMES HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR DECADES. WELL, I鈥橫 79 NOW. AND I WAS JUST OVER 55 WHEN I STARTED 16 GAMES, 62 MEDALS IN FOUR EVENTS THIS WEEK AT 79 YEARS OLD, PAUL JENKINS IS STILL GOING FOR THE GOLD IN FOUR DIFFERENT EVENTS. I RUN IN THE CROSS COUNTRY 10-K, CROSS COUNTRY 10-K TRACK. FIVE, K TRACK AND THE HALF MARATHON ON THE LAST DAY, THE LAST GAMES I TOOK PART IN THE SAME FOUR EVENTS AND I WON FOUR GOLD. SO I鈥橵E COME BACK TO REPEAT HOPEFULLY AS A RETIRED CORRECTIONS OFFICER FROM WALES, ENGLAND, JENKINS BRITISH TEAMMATES CALL HIM THEIR LEGEND, EVEN THOUGH HE STARTED HIS JOURNEY WITH HIS EYES ON THE PRIZE, HE NOW COMES TO THESE GAMES THE PEOPLE WE MEET FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD AND SOME PEOPLE WE SEE AFTER TWO YEARS. I HAVE A JAPANESE FIREFIGHTERS COME AND STAY IN OUR HOUSE. YOU KNOW, IT鈥橲 ALL FRIENDS, EVERY ONE OF US. IT鈥橲 ONE BIG FAMILY AND HE鈥橲 ALREADY LOOKING TOWARDS THE NEXT WORLD. POLICE AND FIRE GAMES. I ASKED JENKINS IF HE HAD PLANS TO COMPETE IN PERTH, AUSTRALIA IN TWO YEARS AND THE ANSWER IS HOPEFULLY I鈥橠 BE 80 THEN, SO I鈥橪L SEE. I MIGHT BE TEMPTING FATE TO SAY YES, BUT WE鈥橪L SEE HOW IT GOES WHETHER HE鈥橲 THERE OR NOT. IN TWO YEARS I DO HAVE MY WELSH FLAG. I WILL BE CHEERING PAUL JENKINS ON AS HE COMPETES IN THIS WEEK鈥橲 COMPETITION. AND JOHN, I HOPE THAT I AM IN AS GOOD OF SHAPE AS HIM WHENEVER I AM 79 YEARS OLD. YOU. I HOPE YOU DO TOO. Seventy-nine-year-old Paul Jenkins is competing in his 16th World Police and Fire Games, hoping to add four more gold medals to his collection."I'm 79 now, I was just over 55 when I started," Jenkins said.The retired corrections officer from Wales will compete in four different events this week and hopes to bring home the gold in each event. With this being the 16th time he's competed, he's already got 38 gold, 20 silver and 4 bronze medals in his collection."I'm running the cross country, 10K cross country, 10K track, 5K track and the half marathon the last day," Jenkins said. "The last games, I took part in the same four events and I won four gold. So, I've come back to repeat, hopefully, again."Though he started competing over 20 years ago because he had his eyes on the prize, Jenkins said that now he attends the games because of the people."We meet from all over the world and some people we see after two years, I've had Japanese firefighters come and stay at our house. You know, we're all friends, every one of us. It's one big family."After Birmingham's competition concludes, the next games will be held in Perth, Australia. Jenkins said he hopes to be competing in those games as well."I'll be 80 then, so we'll see," he said. "I might be tempting fate to say yes, but we'll see how it goes.
