ON SATURDAY, HE SPOKE WITH 米兰体育 13 S MAGDALA LOUISSAINT ABOUT THAT MAGDALA. HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE INSIDE? SO, LISA, THE FIRE CHIEF TELLS ME 150 PEOPLE WERE INSIDE THIS SHELTER HERE. THE YOUNGEST PERSON WAS A BABY. THE OLDEST PERSON NEEDED AN OXYGEN TANK. A MAN, A YOUNG PERSON, RATHER ACTUALLY WAS OUTSIDE, HAD A SEIZURE. FOLKS RUSHED OUTSIDE TO HELP HIM TO QUICKLY GET HIM RIGHT HERE TO HELP HIM OUT. NOW, CHIEF HAGLER TOOK A PICTURE. HERE鈥橲 THAT PICTURE RIGHT NOW THAT HE TOOK OF INSIDE THE SHELTER RIGHT AFTER HE CLOSED THE DOOR. AND HE ALSO SAYS THAT YOU CAN SEE IN THIS PICTURE PEOPLE CRAMMED INSIDE, STANDING AND SITTING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER. HAGLER SAYS THE TOWN鈥橲 POPULATION HAS GROWN TO OVER 300 PEOPLE SINCE THE ABOVE GROUND STORM SHELTER WAS BUILT AFTER THE 2011 DEADLY TORNADO HIT THEIR TOWN. NOW, BEFORE THIS, RESIDENTS HAD TO RIDE THE STORM IN A LARGE BUILDING BASEMENT. HAGLER SAYS THE NEAREST STORM SHELTERS ARE 5 TO 6 MILES AWAY, AND THOSE WERE FULL. AND NOW HE WANTS TO SPEAK WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, WALKER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, ABOUT ADDING A SECOND SHELTER IN THE AREA. THE CITY HAS PROPERTY THAT THAT THEY CAN CLEAR IT TO PUT ON THE ON THE OTHER END. YOU KNOW, THEY DON鈥橳 HAVE TO BE RIGHT HERE SIDE BY SIDE. WOULD YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS SIMILAR TO THIS ON THE OTHER SIDE, OR WOULD YOU WANT A BUILDING OR WHAT DO YOU THINK IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE? I MEAN, AS LONG AS WE CAN GET A STORM SHELTER, IT CAN BE THIS IT CAN BE A BUILDING. WE JUST NEED ONE MORE THAN ONE. YEAH. AND SO HAGLER TOLD ME IF ANOTHER STORM WERE TO COME IN THIS AREA AGAIN, HE WOULD NOT HESITATE WITH PACKING THIS PLACE UP. AND THIS IS THE ONE THING THAT鈥橲 LEFT BEHIND IN THIS STORM SHELTER. THE LITTLE BABY THAT WAS IN HERE, LEFT BEHIND THEIR TOY. NOW, WE鈥橵E TRIED TO REACH OUT TO WALKER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TODAY. STEPHEN ADERHOLT REPRESENTS THIS AREA. DISTRICT FOUR. WE HAVEN鈥橳 HAD ANY LUCK IN GETTING IN TOUCH WITH HIM. I鈥橵E LEFT A MESSAGE WITH HIS SECRETARY, AND I鈥橫 AWARE THAT HE HAS HEARD THAT I鈥橫 REACHING OUT. BUT WE鈥橰E JUST WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM HIM. Fire Chief Justin Hagler said about 150 people were inside the storm shelter as they rode out a tornado that tore through the neighborhood. Despite being over capacity, Hagler said he wasn鈥檛 going to turn anyone away.
