Sunday will bring more scattered heavy storms, but a more enhanced risk for severe weather returns Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Check the video forecast for the latest information.
SUNDAY'S STORMS
A couple more waves of storms will blow through Alabama Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center outlines a marginal risk for severe weather across the state.
This means only a few of the thunderstorms we see will contain damaging winds (60 mph+) and large hail. Intense lightning will accompany many of these storms.
A second wave of storms will arrive in west Alabama after lunchtime and shift southeast through Sunday evening.
Those make not take the same track as the morning round, as storms seek the most unstable air south of I-20. Those storms should exit Central Alabama after 6 p.m. and Sunday night will remain warm and humid.
NEXT WEEK
Looks like we're kicking off the workweek and final week of school with some classic summer weather! Monday is shaping up to be mostly dry, but get ready for another hot, humid afternoon.
IMPACT DAY TUESDAY
Things get a bit more interesting on Tuesday. The Storm Prediction Center outlines an enhanced risk for severe weather in northwest Alabama on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. A slight risk stretches across the I-20/59 corridor.
A cold front will approach, and as it gets closer, intense thunderstorms will develop in the warm, unstable air. The storms will arrive in Alabama by 5 p.m. at the earliest and move south through midnight.
Some of these storm could produce hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. The tornado threat looks low but not zero. Keep in mind, though, that the timing and threat levels could shift a bit as we get closer.
NEXT BIG CHANGE: COOLER, DRIER AIR ARRIVES
Behind the front, cooler and drier air will arrive for Thursday and Friday. A welcomed relief from the hot and steamy air begins Wednesday afternoon. Highs dip below average into the 70s with cool mornings in the 50s with low humidity.
The drier air also means little to no chance for rain Thursday and Friday.
