IMPACT DAY TUESDAY
Tuesday will be another day with heavy summer thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening. With a front moving in, there is a low chance for a few isolated showers earlier in the morning, but the best coverage of storms will start after lunch and last into the evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a marginal risk for Tuesday. Storms may briefly turn strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.
Storms will develop in random locations and drift slowly. Due to the recent heavy rains, the ground is saturated and any additional downpours that aren't moving much may lead to some minor nuisance flooding.
DRIER AND HOTTER DAYS AHEAD
A cold front will allow some drier air to spill into Alabama by Wednesday. This front won't won't make temperatures cooler, though. It will actually allow us to heat more effectively each day into the low 90s thanks to less cloud cover and drier air in place.
While there will be some drier air around, we can't completely rule out a stray thunderstorm or two each afternoon. However, Most will remain dry Wednesday through Friday.
FOURTH OF JULY FORECAST
For now, the forecast for the Fourth of July looks hot and mainly dry. Highs will reach into the low 90s by the afternoon with feels like temperatures approaching 100 degrees. This is certainly hot, but we will likely hold below Heat Advisory criteria.
Overall rain chances look to be very low. A handful of diurnally driven thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening, but many communities don't see rain at all. If one of the storms does happen to find you, it will not be an all evening problem. It will likely rain for a a few minutes before the storm drifts away or fades.
WATCHING THE GULF
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a boundary that will stall across the Florida Peninsula later this week. Sometimes areas of low pressure can develop along a stalled boundary and eventually start to take on tropical characteristics. These types of setups can be hard to forecast and are not uncommon for this time of year.
Will it become a tropical system? Currently, the chance is low, at just 20% over the next seven days. It's simply too soon to determine what impacts, if any, we might see. We'll continue to keep a close eye on it.
For now, rain chances look limited along the Alabama coast for July Fourth itself. However, expect showers and storms to increase in coverage as we head through the weekend.
