Stormy start to the week in Alabama with heat building by the Fourth
YOUR PLANS. YEAH. JOINING US NOW IS FIRST WARNING CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JASON SIMPSON AND TAYLOR SARALLO. SO GUYS, WHAT ARE WE TRACKING TONIGHT? AND OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS? WELL, TODAY IS AN IMPACT DAY BECAUSE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. TOMORROW ALSO AN IMPACT DAY BECAUSE OF SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS. SOME OF THEM IN AN ENVIRONMENT LIKE THIS CAN BE SEVERE, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST, THERE鈥橲 A LOT OF LIGHTNING WITH THEM. YEAH, WE鈥橵E GOT SOME HEAVY STORMS SHOWING UP FROM OUR FIRST WARNING LIVE RADAR. SO LET鈥橲 GET RIGHT TO IT. OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS, WE鈥橵E SEEN AN INCREASE IN COVERAGE OF SOME OF THESE HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS. NOTHING SEVERE AT THE MOMENT, BUT IF YOU鈥橰E UNDERNEATH ONE OF THESE, MAN, YOU鈥橰E HEARING THAT LOUD THUNDER. ALSO LIKELY DEALING WITH SOME TORRENTIAL RAINFALL. I WANTED TO SHOW YOU WHERE SOME OF THOSE STORMS ARE RIGHT NOW. THIS IS A POCKET OF VERY HEAVY RAIN IN DOWNTOWN COLEMAN. AND YOU ALSO SEE THESE LIGHTNING STRIKES SHOWING UP. SO YOU鈥橰E HEARING SOME REALLY LOUD THUNDER AS WELL. THAT REALLY JUST KIND OF STRETCHES ALONG HIGHWAY 278 TOWARDS BETHEL, INTO JONES CHAPEL, AND THEN LOOKING INTO WINSTON COUNTY RIGHT ALONG 278 MORE OF THE SAME. SO THAT MEANS COMMUNITIES LIKE ADDISON, HOUSTON, TURTLE ROCK, DOUBLE SPRINGS, ALL SPOTS THAT ARE DEALING WITH HEAVY RAIN AND SOME LOUD THUNDER. AT THIS POINT. I鈥橵E ALSO BEEN MONITORING THIS RAIN PICKING UP OVER NORTHWESTERN MARION COUNTY FROM SHILOH TO PLEASANT RIDGE, WESTON TO BARNESVILLE, STRETCHING BACK TOWARDS BEXAR AND SCOTTSVILLE. THIS IS GOING TO DRIFT SOUTH INTO THE CITY OF HAMILTON HERE IN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES, HEAVIER POCKETS OF RAIN STRETCH FROM MOUNT VERNON TO KIRKLAND OVER TOWARD STEWART AND WAYSIDE AND FAYETTE COUNTY. SO BASICALLY A VERY WET RIDE FROM MOUNT VERNON UP TOWARDS WAYSIDE. IF YOU鈥橰E TAKING HIGHWAY 107, AND THEN WE鈥橪L LOOK DOWN INTO NORTHERN GREENE COUNTY AND NEAR LEWISTON. WE鈥橵E SEEN QUITE A FEW LIGHTNING STRIKES SHOWING UP, THE RED INDICATING REALLY HEAVY RAIN NEAR MANTUA. WE鈥橵E ALSO GOT SOME REALLY HEAVY RAIN, OR EVEN POTENTIALLY SOME VERY SMALL HAIL SHOWING UP AT THIS MOMENT. BENEVOLA ANOTHER LOCATION THAT鈥橲 HEARD THAT LOUD THUNDER AND IS ALSO HEARING THE LOUD RAIN. AND LET鈥橲 TAKE YOU TO CHILTON COUNTY. I鈥橵E BEEN WATCHING THIS STORM THAT DEVELOPED RIGHT OVER I-65, AND IT REALLY HASN鈥橳 MOVED MUCH OVER THE LAST 15 TO 20 MINUTES. SO PICKING UP SOME HIGH RAINFALL RATES FROM EXIT 212 DOWN INTO CLANTON DOWNTOWN CLANTON UNDERNEATH ONE OF THOSE HEAVY SHOWERS. AND THAT STRETCHES TOWARDS PEACH PARK AS WELL INTO CLAY COUNTY. JUST A FEW SPOTTY SHOWERS SHOWING UP FROM BARFIELD TO CRAGFORD, MILL VALLEY OVER TOWARDS MILLERVILLE. NOT PICKING UP ANY THUNDER OR LIGHTNING WITH THESE AT THE MOMENT, BUT WE鈥橪L KEEP AN EYE ON THEM THROUGH THE REST OF THE EVENING. WE WILL SEE A DECREASE IN COVERAGE A LITTLE BIT LATER TONIGHT. THOSE STORMS WILL EVENTUALLY FADE AWAY, AND THEN WE KIND OF JUST REPEAT THIS PATTERN ONCE AGAIN TOMORROW. TOMORROW IS A FIRST WARNING IMPACT DAY. WE COULD HAVE SOME HEAVIER SUMMER STORMS, LIKELY THAT WE GET SOME HEAVY RAIN, INTENSE LIGHTNING, GUSTY WINDS. WE鈥橪L ALSO HAVE TO MONITOR FOR SOME NUISANCE FLOODING IN LOCATIONS THAT SEE WHERE THOSE STORMS SET UP. THAT DOESN鈥橳 MOVE VERY MUCH JUST BECAUSE THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED FROM SOME OF THAT RAIN WE HAD OVER THE WEEKEND. STORM PREDICTION CENTER PLACING ALL OF CENTRAL AND MOST OF NORTH ALABAMA IN A MARGINAL LEVEL ONE OUT OF FIVE RISK. WE鈥橪L START THE DAY MAINLY DRY. FIRST WARNING FUTURE TRACK SHOWS RIGHT AROUND NOON. THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOME SPOTTY STORMS, AND THEY LOOK TO BE ESPECIALLY HEAVY ALONG INTO THE SOUTH OF THE 5920 CORRIDOR THROUGH THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. BY 6 P.M., WE ARE STILL TRACKING SOME HEAVIER, SPOTTY STORMS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FADE AWAY LATE TOMORROW EVENING. WE DO HAVE A FRONT MOVING IN THAT IS GOING TO HELP TO IMPROVE OUR FORECAST. WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. SO OF COURSE, I KNOW A LOT OF FOLKS ARE WONDERING WHAT THE FORECAST LOOKS LIKE FOR THE 4TH OF JULY, AND I鈥橫 HAPPY TO REPORT THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE MAINLY DRY. IT IS GOING TO BE ON THE HOT SIDE WITH TEMPERATURES CLIMBING INTO THE LOW 90S, FEELING MORE LIKE THE TRIPLE DIGITS THOUGH AT TIMES. BUT WE鈥橪L TAKE IT IF IT MEANS A MAINLY DRY HOLIDAY. AND OF COURSE, A LOT OF FOLKS LIKELY HEADED DOWN TO THE COAST. AND FOR MORE ON THAT, WE鈥橰E GOING TO BRING IN CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JASON SIMPSON. YEAH, THERE鈥橲 SOME INTERESTING THINGS HAPPENING DOWN ALONG OUR GULF COAST RIGHT NOW. IT HAS BEEN STORMY ALL DAY DOWN THERE, BUT LOOKING FORWARD THROUGH THE FOURTH ON FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE GOING TO THIN OUT THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS BY THIS TIME FRAME WILL BE ON THE LOW END, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME PRETTY SIGNIFICANT RIP CURRENTS SHOWING UP ON THE GULF COAST OF FLORIDA AND ALABAMA IN THE LAST 24 HOURS TUESDAY. IT鈥橲 STILL A YELLOW FLAG DAY, AND THEN WE GO DOWN TO WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, AND INDEPENDENCE DAY. BEING A MINOR RISK OF RIP CURRENTS. BUT JUST REMEMBER, ANY TIME YOU鈥橰E DOWN THAT WAY, IF YOU KNOW SOMEBODY WHO鈥橲 DOWN THAT WAY, TEXT THEM AND REMIND THEM, WE GOT THIS QR CODE RIGHT HERE THAT YOU CAN USE TO GET THAT UPDATED FORECAST FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE. ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE RIP CURRENTS TODAY IS BECAUSE OF A LOT OF STORMINESS OVER THE GULF, AND THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER HAS BEEN WATCHING THIS AREA IN YELLOW RIGHT HERE. IT鈥橲 ONLY ABOUT A 20% CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. THE WAY THINGS LOOK RIGHT NOW, THERE鈥橲 JUST NOT A LOT OF COMING TOGETHER OF FEATURES FOR THIS TO BECOME A MAJOR SYSTEM THAT WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. BUT IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TO THE GULF COAST, TO THE EAST COAST OR TO CENTRAL FLORIDA AROUND DISNEY WORLD OR TAMPA, IT鈥橲 GOING TO BE ROUGH AND STORMY INLAND AND THE SEAS ON BOTH THE GULF SIDE AND THE ATLANTIC SIDE WILL BE ROUGH AS WELL. WITH THAT SYSTEM IN THE AREA. SO BACK HERE AT HOME TOMORROW, OUR IMPACT DAY, GOOD CHANCE OF WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS. WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY. THAT FRONT COMES IN THIS TIME OF YEAR. FRONTS DON鈥橳 BRING COOLER AIR, THEY JUST BRING THE HUMIDITY DOWN A TOUCH. AND THAT鈥橲 A GOOD THING BECAUSE AS THE TEMPERATURE GOES UP, THE FEELS LIKE TEMPS GOING TO STAY BELOW 100 ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. AND THEN WE START TO BRING BACK THE HUMIDITY AND THO

FIRST WARNING LIVE RADAR | WAYS TO STAY SAFE IN SEVERE WEATHER | UPLOAD YOUR WEATHER PHOTOS | Heavy summertime storms are rumbling across Alabama Monday evening, and more are in Tuesday's forecast. Some storms on Tuesday could be severe with strong wind gusts over 60 mph. Check the video forecast for the latest. IMPACT DAY TUESDAYTuesday will be another day with heavy summer thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon and evening. With a front moving in, there is a low chance for a few isolated showers earlier in the morning, but the best coverage of storms will start after lunch and last into the evening. The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a marginal risk for Tuesday. Storms may briefly turn strong with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain. Storms will develop in random locations and drift slowly. Due to the recent heavy rains, the ground is saturated and any additional downpours that aren't moving much may lead to some minor nuisance flooding. DRIER AND HOTTER DAYS AHEAD A cold front will allow some drier air to spill into Alabama by Wednesday. This front won't won't make temperatures cooler, though. It will actually allow us to heat more effectively each day into the low 90s thanks to less cloud cover and drier air in place. While there will be some drier air around, we can't completely rule out a stray thunderstorm or two each afternoon. However, Most will remain dry Wednesday through Friday.FOURTH OF JULY FORECASTFor now, the forecast for the Fourth of July looks hot and mainly dry. Highs will reach into the low 90s by the afternoon with feels like temperatures approaching 100 degrees. This is certainly hot, but we will likely hold below Heat Advisory criteria.Overall rain chances look to be very low. A handful of diurnally driven thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and evening, but many communities don't see rain at all. If one of the storms does happen to find you, it will not be an all evening problem. It will likely rain for a a few minutes before the storm drifts away or fades.WATCHING THE GULF The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a boundary that will stall across the Florida Peninsula later this week. Sometimes areas of low pressure can develop along a stalled boundary and eventually start to take on tropical characteristics. These types of setups can be hard to forecast and are not uncommon for this time of year. Will it become a tropical system? Currently, the chance is low, at just 20% over the next seven days. It's simply too soon to determine what impacts, if any, we might see. We'll continue to keep a close eye on it. For now, rain chances look limited along the Alabama coast for July Fourth itself. However, expect showers and storms to increase in coverage as we head through the weekend. Here's a full look at the forecast for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season.Stay weather-awareFor the latest weather coverage for your area, click here.
