COLD FRONT COMING
The first weekend of October failed to feel like fall, but next week brings a nice change.
A cold front is expected to sweep across Alabama late Monday, ushering in a noticeable shift in the state鈥檚 weather pattern. Temperatures, which have been hovering in the sweltering 80s, will plummet as the cooler air mass moves in.
You can anticipate a significant drop in temperature Monday morning, with readings dipping into the lower 60s. However, the day will see a gradual warming trend, with highs climbing into the mid-80s. As the week progresses, average high temperatures across Alabama will settle in the upper 70s and low 80s.
The pattern is anticipated to remain dry throughout next week, with consistently pleasant weather. Overnight lows will drop into the 50s, providing a welcome respite from the recent heat. Some areas in North Alabama may drop into the upper 40s Friday and Saturday morning.
Daytime highs will remain in the upper 70s, offering comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities.
TRACKING MILTON
Hurricane Milton formed Sunday and is expected to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane as it tracks toward Florida in the coming days. Moving slowly at 7 mph, Milton will remain over warm waters, allowing it to intensify rapidly. As it crosses the Gulf, it's likely to strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall along Florida's west coast Wednesday morning.
Parts of Florida's west coast face an increasing threat of life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds. Residents should be prepared and stay updated on the forecast.
Heavy rainfall (5-8 inches) is expected in Florida starting Sunday and Monday. Flash flooding, urban flooding and river flooding are possible, especially Tuesday through Wednesday.
Will Alabama see impacts?
Regardless of strength, Milton will not bring any direct impacts to Alabama as it tracks east, though coastal areas should monitor the forecast closely.
Swells generated by the storm will heighten the surf and rip current risk along the northern Gulf Coast starting Monday.
