RAIN RETURNS TONIGHT
A persistent upper-air low strengthening west of Alabama will aim a stream of warm-humid air toward the southeast through the weekend.
Persistent clouds has kept temperatures below 80 degrees this earlier this afternoon. The first wave from this low will impact Alabama this evening and overnight.
With abundant cloud cover and rain-cooled air, severe weather won't develop. Showers and sprinkles has began to fall across south Alabama. Widespread rain and a few storms will cross the Birmingham Metro as early as 11 P.M. You might hear or see a few lightning strikes.
MOTHER鈥橲 DAY WEEKEND
In a word, the weekend forecast is 鈥渨et.鈥
A slow-moving storm system will bring occasional showers and a few thunderstorms across Alabama from the Gulf on Saturday and Sunday. While it won鈥檛 rain continuously, expect plenty of cloudy, damp, and unusually cool weather for early May.
Highs will reach only the upper 60s to lower 70s, with waves of rain and occasional thunderstorms potentially delivering up to 2 inches of rainfall in some areas from Saturday morning through Sunday night.
Conditions will improve somewhat Sunday, with less rain overall. However, scattered showers will be more hit-or-miss, making it harder to pinpoint the best times to avoid the rain.
NEXT BIG CHANGE
The slow-moving storm system will keep things wet and a little cooler than normal on Monday and Tuesday. We will have some scattered showers both days, and the cloudy sky will keep temperatures in the 50s and 60s at night and the lower to middle 70s during the day.
Things will finally start to change for the hotter and drier by Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will soar back to the middle 80s by the middle of the week, and that heat will set up some potentially stormy weather for the end of next week and the weekend (May 17-18).
It will feel a lot like summer toward the end of next week with some areas flirting with 90 degrees. Once you factor in the humidity, it will for sure feel like it's in the 90s.
