It will be chilly and dry early this week, followed by a return of rain and storms. Watch the video for the latest forecast.
SUNNY, COOLER FOR NOW
Monday morning will feel very cool as you head out the door, with temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s. With high pressure building in, skies will be brighter than they have been the past few days.
By Monday afternoon, highs will reach the upper 60s north of I-20 and the mid-70s south of I-20.
Tuesday morning won't be quite as cool, though you'll likely still want a jacket. A pleasant morning in the 50s will turn into a warm afternoon as highs climb to 80 degrees in some areas.
You'll notice more clouds moving in from the west through Tuesday evening, and some areas in west Alabama could see rain arrive before sunset.
MORE RAIN, STORMS
Widespread rain is expected to spread in by Wednesday morning, potentially impacting the morning commute. It will not rain all day; forecast models indicate that rain and storms will likely taper off by the afternoon.
An unsettled weather pattern will resume by the middle of the week, and some storms could last into the weekend.
Abundant moisture will contribute to a daily chance of showers and thunderstorms, though it will not rain all day in every location.
Instability levels will remain low, therefore, severe weather is not expected. However, with persistent rain, flooding could become a concern.
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) outlines portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas under a level 3 of 4 (moderate) risk for flooding. WPC outlines west Alabama (mainly west of I-65) within a level 2 slight risk for flooding, meaning flooding is possible.
Between Tuesday night and Thursday morning, rainfall totals will average 1 to 2 inches across Central Alabama.
WEEKEND PREVIEW
Temperatures will trend below average through the weekend with highs in the mid-70s under a mix of sun and clouds.
The forecast does include a chance for storms Saturday, though many locations will probably remain dry as high-pressure builds to our north with a northerly flow pattern developing.
We are watching to see how the upper-level pattern evolves; this could mean a better chance for storms or a completely dry forecast. We will update you on any changes.
