IN OUR FIRST WARNING, SEVEN DAY BRITTANY JASON. THANKS. TODAY WE PAY TRIBUTE TO THE SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES FIGHTING FOR OUR COUNTRY. AND THAT IS WHAT MEMORIAL DAY IS ALL ABOUT. REMEMBERING AND HONORING THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE CONTINUED TO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE. 米兰体育 13, BRYLEE JOSLIN JOINED AMERICAN VILLAGE AND OTHERS IN CENTRAL ALABAMA TODAY WHO HONORED THE LIVES LOST ON MEMORIAL DAY. HUNDREDS GATHERED ACROSS THE STATE OF ALABAMA TO CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY. PEOPLE I SPOKE WITH SAY FALLEN HEROES SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. TODAY鈥橲 EVENT IS TO HONOR VETERANS WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES FOR OUR FREEDOMS. IT鈥橲 MEMORIAL DAY, AMERICAN VILLAGE HOSTED A5K TITLED BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE, HONORING THOSE WHO PAID THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER MELANIE POOLE SAYS FIGHTING FOR THE COUNTRY ISN鈥橳 AN EASY JOB. TO COME AWAY WITH A NEW RESPECT FOR WHAT THEY DID FOR US, FOR OUR FREEDOMS. THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES. AND AS YOUNG MEN AND YOUNG WOMEN TAKING THE OATH OF ENLISTMENT, THEY DIDN鈥橳 KNOW WHAT WOULD BE IN STORE FOR THEM. AT THE ALABAMA NATIONAL CEMETERY. FAMILIES MOURNED THE LOSS OF THEIR LOVED ONES IN A MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY. GOLD STAR MOM ADRIAN BORLAND SAYS SHE LOOKS FORWARD TO HONORING HER SON AND THE OTHER LIVES LOST. IT鈥橲 JUST AN HONOR THAT WE GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED ON AND ARE BURIED HERE AT THE NATIONAL CEMETERY, BUT IN ALL CEMETERIES FOR THEIR SERVICE. POOLE HOPES TO CONTINUE TO HONOR THOSE WHO SERVED DURING MEMORIAL DAY AND BEYOND. IT鈥橲 SO IMPORTANT FOR US TO TELL THEIR STORIES, CALL THEIR NAMES. WE WILL NEVER FORGET THEM.

A 5K run titled "Because of the Brave" in Montevallo shined a light on military lives lost on Memorial Day.Hundreds participated in the event. Prior to the race, runners received a flag, and they were asked to write the name of the person they were running for on the flag. The flag would then be on display for future events."(The goal is to) come away with a new respect for what they did for us for our freedoms they gave their lives and as young men and women taking the oath of enlistment they didn't know what would be in store for them," said Communications Manager Melanie Poole. The Alabama National Cemetery is next door to the event, and is the final resting place for thousands of people who served in the U.S. military. It will receive a portion of the proceeds from the race.Gold star mom Adrienne Bourland said she looks forward to honoring her son every year."It's just an honor that we give to those who have passed on and are buried here," Bourland said.She continued, "It's so important for us to tell their stories call their names we will never forget them."
