Family member discovers man fatally shot in Birmingham home

WELL, LIKE YOU GUYS SAID, WE DO KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS DEAD. I’M GOING TO STEP OUT OF THE WAY SO YOU CAN SEE WHERE INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL. WORKING THIS CRIME SCENE BACK THERE, WHERE THAT BIG TREE IS, THERE. YOU CAN SEE THERE ARE SEVERAL OFFICERS OVER THERE AS WELL. THAT’S THE HOME IT BELIEVE I BELIEVE THAT’S WHERE THEY FOUND THE MAN. WE’RE TOLD THAT EARLIER TODAY JUST BEFORE 2:00. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AFTER A FAMILY MEMBER CAME TO THE HOUSE TO CHECK ON THEIR LOVED ONE, AND THEY FOUND HIM DECEASED WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND. NOW, RIGHT NOW, WE DO NOT KNOW A MOTIVE OR A SUSPECT, BUT WE ARE JUST A FEW FEET AWAY FROM CENTRAL PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. YOU CAN’T SEE IT, BUT IT IS JUST TO MY RIGHT. WE HAD THE CRIME SCENE TAPE IS ACTUALLY ATTACHED TO THE FENCE FOR THE SCHOOL. WE’RE TOLD THAT STUDENTS WERE NEVER IN ANY DANGER, AND THE OFFICERS ACTUALLY HOPED TO WORK WITH THE SCHOOL FOR POSSIBLE SURVEILLANCE OR VIDEO TO HELP FIND OUT WHO DID THIS. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide in the city's Central Park neighborhood.

Just before 2 p.m. Friday, officers were called to 50th Street in Ensley regarding a report of a person down.

Upon arrival, officers found a man lying unresponsive in the home from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue declared him deceased at the scene.

A concerned family member went to the house to check on the man and found him inside, according to police.
