Neighbors in a Florida community work to save bobcat found with large plastic tubing around its neck
11. WELL, IF A CAT TRULY HAS NINE LIVES, THEN THERE鈥橲 A BOBCAT ON THE TREASURE COAST THAT鈥橲 DOWN TO AT LEAST EIGHT. BOBCATS HAVE MORE SOMEHOW WOUND UP WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE IRRIGATION TUBING AROUND ITS NECK. WILDLIFE EXPERTS BELIEVE THE BOBCAT WAS MAKING FREQUENT APPEARANCES IN A PORT NEIGHBORHOOD. ARI HAIT HAS THE STORY IN THE VIDEO OF HOW THOSE NEIGHBORS CAME THROUGH FOR THE CAT. TAKE A LOOK. THIS IS THE PLASTIC TUBING THAT WAS FOUND AROUND THAT BOBCAT鈥橲 NECK. THEY BELIEVE IT WAS THERE FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS, AND THE MAN WHO CAUGHT THAT CAT BELIEVES REMOVING THIS PROBABLY SAVED THE CATS LIFE. THIS STORY STARTS WITH PHOTOS POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA. A RESIDENT IN THE HERITAGE OAKS COMMUNITY IN PORT SAINT LUCIE SPOTTED A BOBCAT WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A SEVEN INCH PLASTIC IRRIGATION TUBE AROUND ITS NECK. NEIGHBORS AGREED THEY NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING. THEY SAID, WOW, WE GOT TO GET THIS CAT HELP. I MEAN, IT鈥橲 THE CAT DIDN鈥橳 DO NOTHING WRONG. AND HELP COMES IN THE FORM OF TRAPPER JAY. WHERE I HAD THE TRAP IS RIGHT BEHIND THESE TREES. RIGHT HERE. HE SET A TRAP IN THE AREA WHERE THE BOBCAT HAD BEEN SEEN FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. TO ME, I WAS LIKE, I HAVE TO CATCH THIS CAT AND SAVE IT. YOU KNOW, THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. HE WAS GOING TO DIE IF WE DIDN鈥橳 GET THAT OFF HIS NECK. HE WAS EVENTUALLY GOING TO DIE. FOR NEARLY A WEEK, NOTHING. AND THEN SUNDAY NIGHT, TRAPPER JAY GOT AN ALERT THAT SOMETHING WAS NEAR HIS TRAP. SURE ENOUGH, HE BEELINED RIGHT AROUND OR RIGHT INTO TRAP. DONE. CAUGHT. WHEN I SAW THE BOBCAT IN THE TRAP. CONFIRMED, YOU KNOW, I鈥橫 LIKE, OH MY GOSH, WE GOT HIM. WE GOT HIM. AND YOU KNOW. SO I RACED OVER HERE AS FAST AS I COULD. YEAH, WE DID IT, GUYS. SURE ENOUGH, THE BOBCAT WAS INSIDE, THOUGH HE DIDN鈥橳 SEEM ALL THAT GRATEFUL. JAY BROUGHT THE BOBCAT TO THE TREASURE COAST WILDLIFE CENTER. THEY SEDATED THE BOBCAT. AND CUT THE PLASTIC TUBING OFF. A SHORT TIME LATER, THEY WERE BACK AT THE EXACT SPOT WHERE THEY CAUGHT HIM. THIS TIME LETTING HIM GO. THAT鈥橲 PROBABLY THE HIGH POINT OF MY JOBS, IS WHEN YOU CATCH THAT TARGET ANIMAL AND THEN RELEASE THEM. YOU KNOW THAT ANIMAL HEALTHY. AND ONE MORE THING. BOTH TRAPPER JAY AND THE TREASURE COAST WILDLIFE CENTER DID ALL OF THIS WORK FOR FREE. THEY DIDN鈥橳 CHARGE ANYBODY $0.01. THEY SAY THEY DID IT FOR T
