Body found in kitchen pantry of east Birmingham apartment identified
An investigation is underway in northeast Birmingham after a body was found inside of a residence at the Watertown Lodge Apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Birmingham police Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said a call came in around 2:53 p.m. Monday reporting a "person down" inside of Apartment #14 on Watertown Circle. At the scene, officers found a person dead inside of the kitchen pantry of a vacant apartment.
Mauldin said the victim, who was later identified as 26-year-old Eric Henderson, of Birmingham, showed signs of trauma.
Police said this case started off as a death investigation when an off-duty Birmingham officer followed up on a complaint that led to the discovery of the body, but investigators are now classifying it as a homicide.
Three people have been detained in connection with this case and one arrest has been made, but formal charges are still pending with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
