Central Alabama's firefighters have had their work cut out for them in the last two days.

On Sunday, the Hueytown Police Department reported several fire departments were on the scene of brush fires.

Police said Johns Road was closed from Virginia Lane to the Transfer Station due to the fires happening in the area.

The Hueytown Fire Department said there appeared to be about a dozen origin points to the brush fires, and they suspect someone intentionally started them.

The Alabama Forestry Commission reported the Johns Road fires had burned about 50 acres as of the late afternoon.

Around the same time, Trussville and Homewood firefighters were battling brush fires as well.

That evening, the Childersburg, Sylacauga and Lay Lake Fire Departments responded to a 7-acre brush fire that burned down someone's shed before it could be contained.

Then, on Monday, the Hoover Fire Department fought back a fire on the side of I-459 that caused major delays in traffic.

Now, Bessemer firefighters are working tirelessly to contain a massive brush fire in a heavily wooded area off of Lake Shore Parkway. With its current size, crews have decided to let it burn itself out and plan to reassess the situation later tonight.
