It was like a jew going back to Germany In the 1950s, that's how it was. I almost lost my life here. Coming back to Birmingham brings back a harsh memory for hank thomas, the second youngest freedom rider. It was just good to be alive. Alive to tell the story. That goes back to May 14th 1961 where a group of young multiracial bus passengers were met by a mob of 50 men in Birmingham on with pipes, chains, and bats who smashed windows and slashed tires. They sent for reverend Shuttlesworth who was there, Alabama contact. He went and got them and brought them to the parsonage, which is the house behind you. And he fed them. Of course, you gave them some first aid. Oh, time today. All three freedom riders, Charles person dr Catherine Burke's Brooke and hank thomas gave the message of perseverance. Not just for those in the crowd, but the younger generation still fighting for equality today. I just wish like he says that more than we get out there and keep this thing going until we have a resolution, this problem of black men and black women dying who are unarmed, Uh, and innocent in Birmingham.
