East Lake Library to reopen after years-long renovation
It's been four years since the East Lake Library closed. However, that will change next week.
The will reopen Monday after its closure in 2021 due to HVAC issues.
"East Lake Library is reopening its doors - and I couldn't be prouder," Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said in a statement Wednesday. "Not just because it's another win for our neighborhoods, but because it reflects what we believe: access to knowledge should never be up for debate."
In addition to fixing the problem with the HVAC, a new elevator and foyer have been installed, plus more storage space, new restrooms, an exterior emergency stairwell, and the auditorium and stage have been revamped.

Libraries are great resources to their communities. This is a way for students to take advantage of all the library can offer. This branch is on 77th Street South across the street from Barrett Elementary School.
Birmingham Public Library system leaders told 米兰体育 13 that elementary and middle school-aged students use the library the most. Whether it's to get homework done, use the computer, or any other resource available.
This reopening comes at a time when improving Alabama's education standards are in the spotlight, especially as it relates to reading.
"This year we're doing over 200 free programs. A lot of these programs are geared toward preventing summer slide," said Roy Williams, director of public telations for BPL.
The reopening is set for 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 2.
