JENNIFER MARIA TONIGHT鈥橲 DECISION TO STOP PRESIDENT TRUMP鈥橲 SO-CALLED LIBERATION DAY TARIFFS THAT BEGAN ON APRIL 2ND IS IN RESPONSE TO TWO LAWSUITS AGAINST THE ADMINISTRATION, ONE FILED BY A GROUP OF SMALL BUSINESSES AND ANOTHER BY 12 DEMOCRATIC ATTORNEYS GENERAL. ACROSS THOSE TWO CASES, THE COURT OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE, MADE UP OF THREE JUDGES, RULED CONGRESS AND NOT THE PRESIDENT, HAS THE AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE TARIFFS AND THAT THE INTERNATIONAL EMERGENCY ECONOMIC POWERS ACT, WHICH TRUMP USED TO IMPLEMENT THE TARIFFS TO MANY COUNTRIES, INCLUDING CHINA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION, DOES NOT GIVE HIM THE, QUOTE, UNLIMITED POWER TO DO SO. LOCAL ECONOMISTS SAY THE COURT DECISION WILL HELP STABILIZE THE FINANCIAL MARKETS AND THE UNITED STATES ECONOMY. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THIS COURT DECISION MIGHT SPARE US RECESSION. SO NUMBER ONE IS MOST OF THE LEGAL BASIS ARE FOR THE TRADE. WAR IS NOW GONE. INSTEAD, TARIFFS CAN ONLY BE RAISED AS A REACTION TO UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES OR AS PART OF SANCTIONS. CERTAIN TARIFFS, LIKE THOSE ON STEEL AND ALUMINUM, WILL REMAIN IN PLACE SINCE THOSE ARE DEPENDENT ON A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION THAT REVEALS NATIONAL SECURITY RISKS FROM THOSE IMPORTED PRODUCTS.
