Crews extinguish church fire in Center Point, investigation underway
Firefighters were called to handle a fire that broke out at a church Saturday night.
The Center Point Fire District announced on social media that its crews responded to a significant commercial structure fire at Solid Rock Church, situated in the 5000 block of Pinson Valley Parkway, shortly before 8 p.m.
The fire department reported that firefighters discovered a fire within the building and successfully extinguished it.
We spoke with Larry Ragland, the senior pastor of Solid Rock. He was in good spirits after the fire and commented on the irony of such an event occurring the night before Pentecost Sunday.
"You couldn't make up that script. I literally said this in a sermon recently, that we're praying that the fire of God would be so strong that when people drive by this [building], they're going to see the church on fire," Ragland said. "I didn't mean this! I meant on fire in the spirit... but I'm just believing that something [good] will come out of it."
CPFD Chief Brandon Dahlen said portions of the church suffered smoke and fire damage.
No one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
