It shows cases of COVID-19 reported last month peaking and drastically dropping this month.Flu-like illnesses appear to be on a slight rise, starting to trend up this month. As the flu and COVID-19 season ramps up in the fall and winter months, health professionals say now is the time to roll up the sleeves and get those shots. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccine manufacturers have projected they will supply the United States with more than 100 million doses of flu vaccines for the 2023-2024 season. The CDC also endorsed a new COVID-19 shot for everyone 6 months and older. Healthcare officials believe this will help increase protection and help with a possible surge during the autumn and winter seasons.Local physician Dr. Hayes Williams says for a lot of patients, there are a lot of concerns when it comes to getting the flu or even a COVID-19 shot. 鈥淕enerally, a lot of publicity out there about not getting the COVID shot because it's dangerous. that's bad publicity because, in general, it is not dangerous,鈥� Williams saidIf you do have concerns, Williams says you should talk to your local primary care provider about the advantages/disadvantages of the shots.
