Several Bay Area communities reported hacked crosswalk signals over the weekend. Videos posted to TikTok over the weekend capture the voice recordings walkers were met with shortly after pushing the crosswalk button. The recordings claim to be Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. Users in Palo Alto posted videos featuring an audio recording claiming to be Musk. One recording said, "Hi, this is Elon Musk. Welcome to Palo Alto, the home of Tesla Engineering. You know they say money can't buy happiness, and, yeah, OK."Another recording from a user in Palo Alto captures the crosswalk saying, "Hi, it's Elon. Can we be friends? Will you be my friend? I'll give you a Cybertruck, I promise."Both videos taken in Palo Alto were along University Street. We contacted the city but haven't heard back. Videos also captured the crosswalk recordings in Menlo Park along El Camino Real near the Meta campus. That voice claimed to be Zuckerberg and said, "Hi, this is Mark Zuckerberg, but real ones call me the Zuck. You know, it's normal to feel uncomfortable or even violated as we forcibly insert AI into every facet of your conscious experience."Redwood City told the San Francisco Chronicle that four of its crosswalks were impacted and have now been disabled. 鈥淲e also want to remind the public that tampering with city infrastructure, including crosswalk signals, is unlawful and poses a safety risk,鈥 Deputy City Manager Jennifer Yamaguma told the Chronicle.
