Helene brings tropical downpours and winds to east Alabama, through Friday afternoon

HURRICANE HELENE: ALABAMA IMPACTS
The heaviest rain and strongest wind gusts (20-40 miles per hour) will occur over the eastern part of the state: especially near and east of US Highway 431 from Huntsville to Gadsden, Anniston, and Roanoke.

What: West winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
Where: Blount, Calhoun, Clay, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Talladega Counties.
Including the cities of Moody, Columbiana, Sylacauga, Pelham, Oneonta, Pell City, Birmingham, Talladega, Ashland, Gadsden, Anniston, Alabaster, and Hoover.
When: Until 10 PM CDT Friday
Impacts:
- Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects.
- Trees could be blown down.
- A few power outages may result.
Flash Flood Watch in effect Until 7 AM CDT Friday
What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: A portion of central Alabama, including the following counties:
- Barbour
- Bullock
- Calhoun
- Chambers
- Cherokee
- Clay
- Cleburne
- Coosa
- Elmore
- Etowah
- Lee
- Macon
- Montgomery
A large part of Central and West Alabama will see little to no rain at all on Friday and Friday night, but it will be blustery all day and into the evening.
