How to avoid falling for scams on TikTok shop
More than 48% of TikTok users fall victim to scams on the app's shop, according to UAB computer science professor Ragib Hasan.

Looking for telltale signs could prevent you from being next.
鈥淪ometimes the dealer's deals are too good. For example, something that cost usually say, $200. Quite often those鈥檒l be advertised on social media for as low as $20, and they'll come up with some elaborate looking videos and other ways to promote the material," said Hasan.
Watching for those too good to be true deals, looking at the age of the page, and searching for reviews are all preventive measures against scams.
"Because a lot of the things are being sent from the overseas suppliers directly, people think that if you are bypassing the middleman, if you're buying directly from the source to these shops, you can get a better deal," said Hasan.
Being cautious may not only protect you, but those around you.
鈥淭hey can run some phishing scams, and they can like, push you towards clicking on links that will take you to a phishing site that鈥檒l steal credentials. They can take over a TikTok account itself and then use that to contact your social media circle to then victimize further people with the scams," said Hasan.
Making purchases with a credit card is also recommended.
鈥淐redit card companies are quite active in getting your money back. However, if you paid through other means, such as PayPal, or paid through a debit card, then your protections are limited in most cases," said Hasan.
If you are scammed, as soon as possible and contact your bank to try to get your money back.
