Rafael meanders through the Gulf of Mexico
Hurricane Rafael made landfall in Cuba Wednesday as a major Category 3 hurricane. It will slowly meander westward through the Southern Gulf through the weekend.
Rafael is gradually weakening as it encounters dry air and increased wind shear. It will become a depression and dissipate over the southwestern Gulf early next week, posing no threat.
There are currently no watches or warnings in effect.
Rafael will not directly impact the Alabama Gulf Coast, however the storm is sending rough surf and a high threat of rip currents this way. Surf heights of 5 to 7 feet will reach coastal Alabama through the weekend.
