'It's pretty amazing': Mountain Brook wrestling captures third straight 6A state duals title
For the third straight year, Mountain Brook is atop the mountain.
The Spartans won its third straight state duals title on Saturday, beating Athens 54-21 in the 6A state championship. It's Mountain Brook's 31st straight dual win.
Including the 2024 traditional state title, the Spartans have won four titles in three years. For the seniors, it's been a run they'll never forget.
"Our senior class, we're so close, we hang out with each other outside of wrestling. It definitely makes being on the mat when you're competing with each other and fighting for each other, it makes it a lot more special when you're winning," Stephen Springfield, a Mountain Brook senior said.

It's been a long road for this program and head coach Justin Ransom, who took over in 2013. Since arriving, he's taken this program to new heights.
"Kind of, were told we would never win a state title. Always had good individuals, but never a great team. So, just watching everything kind of transition and compound really with this senior class. When they were freshmen, we made the state semifinals and came up short, but then we won it the next three years. Just watching them grow and kind of put their minds and just stay dedicated and motivated and just keep building on it," Ransom said.
Now, those seniors who have been a part of every title leave a legacy of success in Mountain Brook.
"It's pretty amazing. I mean, just this senior class, all we've accomplished is that it's going to be here forever. It's a good feeling knowing you've done that," Springfield said.
