Jabari Peoples' family wants answers.
Why did a Homewood police officer open fire on the Aliceville teen Monday night?
What exactly led up to that fatal decision?

鈥淚f the goal is to trust law enforcement, if the goal is to have transparency and believe in those who wear the badge and serve and protect us, then we need transparency,鈥 family attorney Leroy Maxwell said.
Forty-eight hours after his death, Homewood police did release more details.
They claim Peoples ran to grab a gun out of his car when he was shot.
They also said the officer's body camera footage backed up that statement.
They even announced arrangements were being made to show the video to the family.

鈥淲hen statements were released that someone was working with the family through ALEA or whoever to watch the video, we were excited about that, but it's just not true,鈥 Maxwell said.
Maxwell said so far, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) has not made the video available to them.
Despite the police department insisting the video shows Peoples going for a gun, his girlfriend maintains he was unarmed.
鈥淪he was right beside him as he was dying. Never saw a gun before, during and after. Never saw a gun whatsoever,鈥 Maxwell said.
So, four days after the fatal shot at this soccer park, Maxwell said the lack of transparency is sowing distrust.

鈥淚f we don't get the answers that we believe, the family lawfully deserves, we'll have no choice but to file a lawsuit and enjoin ALEA, or the city of Homewood, and force them to produce that evidence,鈥 Maxwell said.
Homewood police said they have turned over all of the video evidence to ALEA.
When asked if state investigators could provide an update on a timeline to show the footage to the family, a spokesman said they did not have one.
Once their investigation is complete, the Jefferson County district attorney will decide if the officer鈥檚 shooting was justified or not.
A candlelight vigil is planned for June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Homewood Soccer Park located on South Lakeshore Drive.
