BUT ONCE AGAIN, SEVERAL BIRMINGHAM PUBLIC SWIMMING POOLS WILL NOT BE OPEN THIS YEAR. ONLY SEVEN OF THE CITY鈥橲 12 POOLS WILL BE FILLED, AND THAT IS DOWN FROM NINE LAST YEAR. BUT ONE OF THE POOLS THAT IS READY TO GO IS OVER AT CRESTWOOD PARK. THAT鈥橲 WHERE WE FIND 米兰体育 13. BRYCE, OSELEN AND BRYCE. BUT IF YOU LOOK BEHIND ME, I鈥橫 AT CRESTWOOD PARK, AND THIS IS ONE OF THE FOUR POOLS THAT THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM WILL SOON OPEN. RIGHT NOW. THERE鈥橲 A LOCK ON IT, BUT THIS LOCK WILL BE REMOVED SHORTLY THIS WEEKEND. NOW, THE OTHER THREE POOLS INCLUDE MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR, MACALPINE AND MEMORIAL PARK. A BIG REASON WHY THE CITY CAN鈥橳 OPEN MORE POOLS IS TO CONTINUING LIFEGUARD SHORTAGE. RIGHT NOW, THE CITY IS STILL LOOKING FOR MORE LIFEGUARDS AND WILL BE PAYING OVER $16 AN HOUR. BUT FOR THE FAMILIES THAT DO GET TO ENJOY THE POOL, WELL, THEY TELL ME IT鈥橲 A BIG BENEFIT FOR THEIR FAMILIES. OH MAN, THERE鈥橲 EVERYTHING A FAMILY COULD NEED FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES AT THIS PARK. THERE鈥橲 THE PLAYGROUND WITH LITTLE KID ACTIVITIES, BIG KID ACTIVITIES. THERE鈥橲 PLENTY OF SHADE FOR PICNICS, BENCHES, FOOTBALL FIELD FOR ALL SORTS OF SPORTS. SO TRACK. I MEAN, THE POOL, PICKLEBALL, TENNIS COURTS. EVERY FAMILY HAS A REASON TO BE HERE. NOW, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY BECOMING A LIFEGUARD, YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO REACH OUT TO THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM鈥橲 DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND REC. School is out and children will be looking to make a splash this summer, but once again, several of the Birmingham public swimming pools won鈥檛 be open.This year, only seven of the city鈥檚 12 pools will be filled; that鈥檚 down from nine last year.The pools ready to go on Memorial Day weekend include Crestwood Park, Memorial Park, Martin Luther King Jr., and McAlpine Park.>> YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD: Community coverage from 米兰体育 13A big reason why the city can't open more pools is the continuing lifeguard shortage. The city is still looking for more lifeguards and will be paying over $16 an hour. Families that do get to enjoy the pool say it鈥檚 a big benefit for their families."Oh man, there's everything a family could need for kids of all ages at this park. There's the playground with little kid activities, big kid activities, there's plenty of shade for picnics, benches, football field for all sorts of sports, track, I mean, the pool, pickleball, tennis court, every family has a reason to be here," Birmingham parent Sarah Bethfair said.If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a lifeguard, you are asked to reach out to the city of Birmingham鈥檚 Parks and Recreation department.
