'We can compete with the big boys': Latest Hoover Met renovations ready for SEC Tourney
Next week, SEC baseball fans will find a Hoover Met that has received a complete facelift over the last two years.
The main concourse has now been totally renovated and the many of the bleachers now have chair backs with cup holders.
The improvements are part of a multi-phase $23 million upgrade to keep the SEC tournament in Hoover.
It started with sprucing up the locker rooms.
Then the main entrance and the parking lot were given a major facelift last year.
This year's $11 million changes are on the venue's interior.
Along with all-new chair back seating, there is fresh paint throughout.
"It just gives the stadium an incredible new fresh look. And you know, I think we can compete with the big boys," Mayor Frank Brocato said.
Another big amenity is a third base club space, which overlooks the field on the same level as the concession stands.
"So, the whole the entire stadium, we didn't just put lipstick on it. I mean, we renovated this thing, and it looks phenomenal. People are going to be so surprised when they come out," Brocato said.
Brocato says this facelift helped convince the SEC to sign the deal last year to stay in Hoover through at least 2028.
The SEC Baseball Tournament kicks off next Tuesday, May 20.
