One man's unthinkable actions have altered the state of Minnesota. The intense search for Vance Belter coming to an end in the woods in rural Sibley County, Minnesota. The suspect crawled to law enforcement teams and was placed under arrest at that point in time. Belter on the run for roughly 43 hours after authorities say he killed State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Saturday at their Brooklyn Park home. The suspected gunman then attacked State Senator John Hoffman and his wife at. House in nearby Champlain both survived. I'm very proud to tell you that we took the suspect into custody who was responsible for this. Police calling the manhunt the largest in state history, involving hundreds of detectives and 20 different SWAT teams. Their quick action may have prevented more attacks. If that had not happened, I have every confidence that this would have continued throughout the day. Governor Tim Watts praising law enforcement for their efforts to capture Bulter while honoring Representative Hortman. Melissa Hort. Was the core of who our values were promising justice for the victims of this political violence. And you can rest assured that we will put every ounce of effort that the state of Minnesota has to make sure that justice is served and the individual responsible for this serves the time. In 2019, Walz put Boelter on the Governor鈥檚 Workforce Development Board 鈥� a group of business owners who recommend policies to the state government. In a letter, Walz said the post was in recognition of Boelter鈥檚 鈥渋ntegrity, judgment, and ability.鈥滱ccording to a spokesperson for the governor, the development board, which has more than 60 members, is one of many external boards and commissions whose members are unpaid and come from 鈥渁ll parties.鈥� The spokesperson said the governor does not interview applicants to the boards.It鈥檚 unclear how closely Boelter and Hoffman interacted in that role, if at all.鈥淲e are still exploring that,鈥� Drew Evans, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension superintendent said in a news conference Saturday afternoon about whether Boelter knew the victims directly. 鈥淭here鈥檚 certainly some overlap with some public meetings, I will say, with Sen. Hoffman and the individual, but we don鈥檛 know the nature of the relationship or if they actually knew each other.鈥滲oelter has worked as director of security patrols for Praetorian Guard Security Services, which provides 鈥渞andom armed patrols鈥� of customers鈥� properties, according to the company鈥檚 webpage 鈥� which also suggests he could have had access to uniforms and equipment that could aid in impersonating a police officer.The firm was registered to Boelter鈥檚 home address and listed a woman who is apparently his wife as president and CEO; she did not respond to messages from CNN.The site advertised that the firm had 鈥減olice-type vehicles鈥� and noted, 鈥淲e drive the same make and model of vehicles that many police departments use in the U.S. Currently we drive Ford Explorer Utility Vehicles.鈥漈he firm鈥檚 website boasted of Boelter having experience in foreign conflict zones. It said that he was 鈥渋nvolved with security situations in Eastern Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East, including the West Bank, Southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.鈥漋ideo from outside Hortman鈥檚 home on Saturday showed law enforcement towing a black Ford Explorer equipped with police lights. Boelter appears emotional when describing his religious devotion. He also frequently talked about his connection to the DRC and what he perceived as the suffering the country has endured due to decades of internal conflict and meddling of other countries.鈥淚鈥檝e been to North and South America, I鈥檝e been to the Middle East, I鈥檝e been to Eastern Europe, and I鈥檝e been in the DRC. I鈥檝e never been in a country before like the DRC that has had so much taken away. I hear the history, and it hits my heart.
