SO HERE ARE ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE AGREED TO PLEAD GUILTY IN THIS CASE. CONNER JONES, KAREN KELEE, BAILEY GAINEY, HEATHER CRAIG, GRAYSON WOODS, AND DANIEL WIRES. SOME OF THEIR ATTORNEYS BELIEVE THAT MORE PEOPLE COULD COME FORWARD. WALKER COUNTY LEADERS ARE WORKING TO MAKE SURE INMATES HAVE ACCESS TO NEEDED MEDICAL CARE. AS 米兰体育 13 ZOE BLAIR REPORTS, THE WALKER COUNTY JAIL MEDICAL TEAM IS GROWING. RIGHT NOW, THE WALKER COUNTY JAIL HERE HAS MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS IN THE BUILDING. 16 HOURS OUT OF THE DAY. BUT THAT LEAVES EIGHT HOURS EVERY SINGLE NIGHT WHERE THERE IS NOT ANYONE HERE IN CASE OF A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. THAT鈥橲 CHANGING SOON. THE COUNTY COMMISSION VOTED MONDAY AND APPROVED FUNDS TO STAFF THOSE EIGHT HOURS. WALKER COUNTY SHERIFF NICK SMITH SAYS PROVIDING MEDICAL CARE 24 OVER SEVEN IS ESSENTIAL, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE INMATES THEY鈥橰E BRINGING IN. 85% OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BOOKED INTO JAIL TEST POSITIVE FOR SOME KIND OF ILLEGAL DRUG OR ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE. PROVIDING THE CARE 24 SEVEN IS SOMETHING SHERIFF SMITH CAMPAIGNED ON. 24 OVER SEVEN MEDICAL, SOMETHING THAT I鈥橵E BEEN WORKING ON. I鈥橫 GOING ON MY SEVENTH YEAR IN OFFICE, SO IT鈥橲 SOMETHING THAT WE鈥橵E BEEN FIGHTING FOR FOR SEVEN YEARS. HAVING SOMEONE ON STAFF TO BE HERE 24 OVER SEVEN IS IS A IS A VICTORY FOR THE SHERIFF鈥橲 OFFICE. IT鈥橲 ALSO SOMETHING THAT WAS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE A PART OF THE JAIL WHEN THEY CONSTRUCTED THIS NEW JAIL THROUGH A FEDERAL ORDER THAT THIS JAIL WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE 24 OVER SEVEN MEDICAL SERVICES. I DON鈥橳 KNOW THAT THAT EVER HAPPENED, BUT IN 2006, THAT ORDER WAS LIFTED. WALKER COUNTY JAIL, EVEN THOUGH IT鈥橲 NO LONGER A REQUIREMENT, SMITH SAYS HE鈥橲 GLAD IT鈥橲 FINALLY HAPPENING. HE FEELS THE EXTRA CARE IS NEEDED NOW MORE THAN EVER. IF 24 OVER SEVEN MEDICAL WAS NEEDED IN THE 90S, IT鈥橲 EVEN MORE NEEDED TODAY WITH ALL THE DRUG EPIDEMIC AND EVERYTHING THAT AND THE CHALLENGES THAT WE FACE, JUST FROM THAT ASPECT OF IT NOW, THIS IS A THREE YEAR CONTRACT FOR THIS 24 OVER SEVEN MEDICAL CARE, MEANING IN 2027, THE COUNTY COMMISSION WILL REEVALUATE AND DETERMINE HOW EFFECTIVE THIS WAS FOR THESE INMATES IN WALKER COUNTY
