ERIN LLEWELLYN WITH MORE ON THAT. HEY, ERIN. HEY, MAGDALA. YES. DURING TODAY鈥橲 EVENT WITH LIVE NATION, THEY ANNOUNCED THAT OAK MOUNTAIN AMPHITHEATER WILL CLOSE. NOW, THERE WERE RUMORS LAST MONTH WITH POST MALONE鈥橲 CONCERT HERE THAT THEY COULD BE THE LAST ONE. AND WITH THIS, WITH THIS ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY, IT SEEMS LIKE THAT IS MORE OF A POSSIBILITY. OAK MOUNTAIN AMPHITHEATER HAD A GREAT 38 YEAR RUN, AND WE ARE NOW TURNING OUR ATTENTION TO THE COCA COLA AMPHITHEATER RIGHT HERE IN THE DRUID HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD. AND THAT鈥橲, THAT鈥橲 THAT鈥橲 OUR STORY WHEN IT COMES TO OAK MOUNTAIN. NOW, WITH THE AMPHITHEATER CLOSING, MARGHERITA GRILL OWNER JAVIER PEREZ SAYS THIS COULD HURT A LOT OF BUSINESSES IN THE AREA, EVEN THOUGH THE AMPHITHEATER ONLY HOSTED EIGHT SHOWS THIS SUMMER. HE SAYS HOTELS, GAS STATIONS AND RESTAURANTS RELIED ON THE TRAFFIC FROM CONCERT GOERS TO STAY AFLOAT. DESPITE THESE RUMORS, PEREZ SAYS THE AMPHITHEATER CLOSING DOESN鈥橳 COME AS A SURPRISE BECAUSE HE AND HIS STAFF KNEW ALREADY. WE HEARD THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE CLOSED. MALONE ACTUALLY WAS THE LAST ARTIST THAT WENT TO THE AMPHITHEATER, AND WE KNEW THEN THAT IT WAS A FINAL CONCERT AND IT WAS JUST LIKE I SAID, YOU KNOW, BIRMINGHAM THEY GOT A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON, AND THEY LIVE NATION WENT THAT WAY INSTEAD. AND, I MEAN, I KNOW IT鈥橲 A BUSINESS DECISION, BUT IT AFFECTS A WHOLE LOT OF BUSINESSES LIKE MINE. On Tuesday morning, Live Nation announced the new name for the new Birmingham amphitheater. During the event, the live event promotion company announced Oak Mountain Amphitheatre will close. There were rumors last month that Post Malone鈥檚 concert could be the last at the venue ever, but now that seems like it鈥檚 more of a possibility.鈥淭he Oak Mountain Amphitheater had a 38-year run,鈥� Jay Wilson with Live Nation Birmingham said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e now turning our attention to the Coca-Cola Amphitheater right here in Birmingham in Druid Hills. That鈥檚 our story when it comes to Oak Mountain.鈥漌ith these changes, businesses in the Pelham area will be impacted. Margarita Grill owner Javier Jerez said businesses near the amphitheater are disappointed the venue is closing. They鈥檙e worried about how this could affect their bottom line.Jerez said every time Oak Mountain hosted a concert, he noticed more people pulling up a chair to the tables at his restaurant. He said a lot of the time, businesses saw an increase in visitors who came from out of town to go to concerts. That increase in visitors also trickles down to other businesses like gas stations, restaurants and hotels. Jerez said he expects that he will be fine, but he worries about other business owners who may not have the same luck.鈥淲e鈥檒l see a decrease on this, unfortunately,鈥� Jerez said. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 think it鈥檒l be that much because, once again, it was only seven concerts. But every cent counts, so it will affect us in one way or another.鈥澝桌继逵� 13 reached out to the city of Pelham for a response to the amphitheatre closing but has not heard back yet.
