Alabama State Superintendent of Education is pleased with the person recently appointed to lead Bessemer City Schools.
On Wednesday, Bessemer City Schools officials confirmed with 米兰体育 13 that Michael Turner would be filling the vacancy left by former BCS Superintendent Dana Arreola.
"I'm very happy with Michael Turner," said Dr. Eric Mackey. " I appreciate his interest and willingness to take on the role. It is my intention that he will be the superintendent the entirety of the state intervention."
Turner is currently the principal of Pinson Valley High School and has served as a professional educator for 26 years, 18 of which were in administration, according to his .
He has been Pinson Valley's principal for a decade.
鈥淚鈥檝e been up there myself, visited his school, seen him in action; I鈥檝e talked to students and teachers in that school. I鈥檝e long been impressed with him," Mackey said.
Mackey says Dr. Daniel Boyd, the person appointed as chief academic officer while under state intervention, talked positively of Turner after his interview with Bessemer.
"Dr. [Walter] Gonsoulin has been wonderful to work with because he said can help by letting him get out of his contract at Pinson Valley quickly so he can move to Bessemer," Mackey said.
This comes after Arreola was named the "lone finalist" for the superintendent position at the Gonzales Independent School District, located in Gonzales, Texas.
鈥淎fter an extensive search, we are thrilled to announce that Dr. Dana Arreola has been named the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools," said Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees President Ross Hendershot III. "鈥婬鈥媏r dedication to student achievement and community collaboration aligns perfectly with our district鈥檚 commitment to 鈥楪rowing Greatness鈥. We look forward to working together to cultivate excellence.鈥
Arreola reposted several posts congratulating her for the new position on X, formerly Twitter.
Turner is joining the district amid an ongoing takeover by the Alabama Board of Education that began roughly seven months ago.
Mackey said he expects the takeover in Bessemer to take years.
Turner will officially take the lead as superintendent in April.
