INVESTIGATORS. YEAH. LORI. TONIGHT, POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AFTER OVER 100 BRONZE VASES WERE STOLEN FROM SOME OF THESE VETERAN GRAVESITES HERE. NOW, IMAGINE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DEVASTATED WHEN SOMETHING IS STOLEN FROM THEM. BUT WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT, IT鈥橲 SOMETHING SO PERSONAL AND ESPECIALLY SO CLOSE TO MEMORIAL DAY THAT HITS CLOSE TO HOME. IT鈥橲 GOING TO BE ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THEFTS THAT THE CEMETERY HAS EXPERIENCED, SO WE鈥橰E TAKING THAT VERY SERIOUSLY. TONIGHT THE SEARCH IS ON FOR THE SUSPECT WHO ROBBED DECEASED VETERANS AND THEIR LOVED ONES OF A MEANINGFUL MEMENTO. THAT鈥橲 JUST NOT SOMETHING THAT MAKES SENSE, REALLY, TO ANYONE. AFTER OVER 100 BRONZE VASES FROM VETERANS GRAVES WERE STOLEN IN THE MILITARY GARDEN OF THE LAUREL HILL CEMETERY. UNFORTUNATELY, IT SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A COMMON THING THAN IT SHOULD BE. BUT ESPECIALLY, YOU KNOW, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. AND FOR VETERANS GRAVES SPECIFICALLY TO BE THE ONES THAT WERE DESECRATED AND DISRESPECTED. THAT鈥橲 WHY WE鈥橰E TAKING THAT EXTRA CLOSE TO HOME. POLICE SAY THE THEFT HAPPENED BETWEEN SUNDAY AND TODAY, AND ALTHOUGH THEY DON鈥橳 HAVE A SUSPECT, THEY WANT THE PUBLIC AND ANYONE WHO WOULD COMMIT THIS TYPE OF CRIME TO HEAR THIS MESSAGE. JUST STOP AND TAKE A SECOND. AND THIS IS REALLY JUST ABOUT RESPECTING OTHER PEOPLE. SO WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENCES AND SOMETIMES WE DON鈥橳 GET ALONG. BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU KNOW, A VETERANS MEMORIAL THAT THAT SHOULDN鈥橳 BE SOMETHING THAT WE EVER TAKE LIGHTLY. IT鈥橲 A GOOD MESSAGE. Bronze vases stolen from veterans graves in Pennsylvania cemeteries
On this Memorial Day weekend, police in Pennsylvania are investigating the theft of about 100 bronze vases from veterans' graves. "It's going to be one of the most significant thefts that the cemetery has experienced. So, we're taking that very seriously. It's just not something that makes sense, really, to anyone," Columbia Borough police officer Rebecca Blatt said. Columbia Borough is in Lancaster County, about 90 miles west of Philadelphia.Police say the theft happened between Sunday and this Friday at the military garden of the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Although they don't have a suspect, they want the public and anyone that had something to do with the crime to hear this message. "Just stop and take a second. This is really just about respecting other people. So, we all have differences, and sometimes we don't get along. But at the end of the day, you know, a veteran's memorial, that shouldn't be something that we ever take lightly," Blatt said.The Laurel Hill Cemetery was not the only one with thefts. Two other nearby cemeteries also experienced the theft of vases. The community is coming together to make sure those veterans are honored this Memorial Day with one local business giving out flags to put in the cemeteries.
