President Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin for more than an hour, describing it as a "good conversation" but not one "that will lead to immediate peace."

President Trump detailed the call on social media, saying Putin told him "very strongly" that he will respond to Ukraine's weekend drone attack on Russian airfields.
Meanwhile, President Trump's 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports went into effect just after midnight, which he says is about protecting industries, but economists warn businesses and consumers may face higher prices. This comes as a new ADP jobs report shows private sector hiring is slowing, with 37,000 jobs added in May, the lowest level in two years. The president responded on social media by calling on the head of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, to lower interest rates.
A White House official said the president is meeting with Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other members of the Finance Committee at the White House, as some Republicans come out against his "big beautiful" tax cut and spending bill. This comes after Elon Musk slammed the bill yesterday, calling it a "disgusting abomination" that will "massively" increase the deficit.
