The resident is warning others about a potential scam listing her home as a rent-to-own property online

Right now someone is advertising this Racine home online as *** rent to own property, but the owner reached out to 12 News saying she already lives there and it's not for rent. 12 News Kendall Keys tonight with that owner's warning about the potential scam. It was shocking. It was really, really shocking. Shelly Benning says it's *** scam when someone comes up to your door and says, Hey, is this place for rent? targeting the Racine home she owns, and I was like, No, this place is not for rent. She says it's on Facebook. Strangers knocking on her front door, asking to tour the house after seeing it for rent online. She says it's happened. Multiple times and right now there's still an active listing up on Facebook Marketplace. The seller asking $650 to rent the home. The current owner says her mortgage is more than double that. The listing complete with photos of the inside of the home that aren't even accurate. The one for 650 had *** totally different interior, totally different. Binding says when She messaged to question the listing, she was given *** number to call. 12 News called it and asked if the property was available. So sorry about this property, ma'am. I'm so sorry. There is someone who's already inquiring about this and in the process for application. I asked if the listing was fake or if it ever existed in the first place. I'm so sorry if it's been not yet updated and so sorry for the inconvenience about that, but thank you. But the call cut off. Benning says she reported the listing to Racine police, and they told her to report the fake listings to Facebook. I want something to be done. I don't want people to be scammed out of money. No one should have to suffer because someone else wants to make *** quick buck. In Racine, Kendall Keys, WISN 12 News. Just an incredible story there. Racine police confirming they did investigate this case, but they do not think it's *** crime because there's no evidence of stolen money.
