Rossen Reports: Can your smartphone really survive underwater as promised?
Smartphones are getting more expensive, with brands like Samsung and Apple promising advanced features like water resistance.
Jeff Rossen tested two Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones鈥攐ne brand new and one refurbished鈥攖o see if refurbished models can match the performance of new ones.
The new phone cost $1,299, while the refurbished model, purchased from Reebelo.com, cost $480 less. Both phones were submerged in water for 30 minutes to test their IP68 water resistance rating, which claims they can survive in up to 5 feet of water.
Both phones passed the test, functioning perfectly after 30 minutes in fresh water. Rossen then pushed the limits by submerging them in a pool, which goes beyond Samsung's recommendations. After another 30 minutes underwater, both phones still worked flawlessly.
The refurbished phone not only matched the new one in performance but exceeded expectations, proving to be a cost-effective option for consumers.
