School resource officer training
Maintaining a secure and safe learning environment is the goal for Jefferson County school resource officers as they train to prepare for active shooter situations.
Sheriff Mark Levie Pettway says this training will make these officers feel more comfortable when there is an active shooter on campus.
In 2022, the FBI reported there were a total of 50 active shooter incidents, which killed 100 and wounded 213. Jefferson County Soffice hopes their training will help avoid any more accidents like this from happening.
Sheriff Pleading this training right now. He says several agencies are preparing for unexpected attacks that could happen inside or outside of the school.
鈥淚t鈥檚 good to know before you go into the school, know which hallway you鈥檙e going into. Know what classroom, so that way we can respond faster. Not going the wrong direction, but going the right direction to make sure we can end any situation quickly,鈥 Pettway said
Pettway believes these classes will help educate law enforcement to new techniques.
