We've kind of bounced around *** little bit, so we need *** home. We think this is our home and we'll be able to grow it to where we can get 56, 10,000 fans, and we've seen it grow here. Our attendance has continued to grow, but we're gonna have to get *** home base. We hope this is it. We look forward to it and we'll see how the numbers work out.

SWAC baseball tournament aims to find its home at Rickwood Field
The Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball tournament is back in Birmingham. This year's championships are in full swing at historic Rickwood Field. SWAC commissioner Charles McClelland says it's special to have the teams play at "America's Oldest Ballpark.""Hats off to Mayor Woodfin bringing us here, working it to where SWAC can put a foothold. We'll be here for the next five years. Our student-athletes was out on the field taking selfies, overwhelming support from the coaches, so it's a great environment. Again, legendary players have been here to be able to grace the same field as some of those legends, it's a dream come true for our student-athletes," McClelland said. The conference tournament has been held the last two seasons in Atlanta. The last stop in Birmingham was 2022 at Regions Field, but now McClelland is hoping the SWAC in Birmingham can be like the SEC tournament in Hoover."We've kind of bounced around a little bit, so we need a home. We think this is our home and we'll be able to grow it to where we can get five, six, 10,000 fans and we've seen it grow here. Our attendance has continued to grow, but we're going to have to get a home base. We hope this is it, we look forward to it, and we'll see how the numbers work out," McClelland said.To do that, McClelland is calling on the city of Birmingham to come out and support these teams and players."There are some professional athletes that are going to get drafted here, we need you to come out and support. One of the things that has been a benefit, we've seen some SEC fans come even today. So, there's two great baseball tournaments going on our fans have gone to the Hoover Met, SEC fans have come here. We want it to grow, we want it to expand so the thing that we want, the thing that we need is for Birmingham to support this tournament," McClelland said. The SWAC tournament continues this weekend at Rickwood Field with the championship game set for Sunday, May 25, at 1 p.m.
