Video shows couple staging hair on food hoax at Tennessee restaurant
Video of a couple in an apparent attempt to get free food at a Tennessee restaurant is serving as a warning to other eateries in the area.
It happened Saturday at the Steel Coop in Livingston. The restaurant鈥檚 manager, Patrick Jones, told he was called over to a table where a couple claimed to have found a wad of hair on their plate.
Surveillance footage would show that hair didn鈥檛 come from his staff.
The video shows a woman reach behind her head. The man with her then reaches over and grabs what鈥檚 there and eventually puts it on his food.
"This was one that we're like, you know what? We should post this,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淧eople need to see that. It's not always the restaurant that is wrong."
When Jones was first called over to the couple鈥檚 table, he apologized and took that food off their bill. Then a customer sitting nearby told him it was the couple who was to blame.
Jones checked the footage and saw what actually happened. As he went outside to catch the couple before they left, he saw an unexpected sight.
"He was proposing to her on the side steps there, and I stopped him,鈥 Jones told the station. I said, 鈥楲ook, don't come back here again.鈥"
The restaurant said the bill totaled about $20 which has since been paid by the family members of the couple.
Restaurant owner Cindy Cooper decided not to press charges, but says restaurant workers should be mindful.
"Look at the food,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t was obvious. That would have been seen immediately."
