With two studios and a mixroom, the youth and other visitors can use professional equipment to create their songs. Celebrities have even recorded songs on the bus.
"Wu-Tang clan, John Legend. So many, so many artists. Black Eyed Peas actually used the bus to create original songs that are now famous," said Brian Rothschild, the executive director and co-founder of The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.
In addition to connecting the youth with opportunities in the music, video and broadcast fields, the goal of the bus is to spread peace.
"The bus is meant to give them hope, meant to give them direction, meant to give them connections with people in the industry. On Wednesday, we're going to be doing a project with that's bringing about 120 students together from Birmingham high schools to talk about all of those things, and to give them some actual meaningful skills and beginning of ideas about what they might do with their life in audio and video and broadcast," said Rothschild.
On Tuesday, the tour bus crew worked with students from several Birmingham high schools to create a song.
That song will be finished on Wednesday while the bus is at Birmingham City Hall. It'll also make a stop at UAB.
The bus has been touring around the country since 1998 and features the Beatles co-founder's 1968 self-portrait on the outside.
"With John Lennon's name on it, there's something extra special, you know. There's a commitment to social justice. There's a commitment to inspiring young people to make the most of their life and to imagine peace," said Rothschild.
