Trussville commuters frustrated by long delays from I-59 construction
I鈥橫 JOHN PAMUKCU WITH THE LATEST. BACKUP PARKING PLAN. INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION ENTERING A NEW PHASE IN TRUSSVILLE. BUT THIS MORNING鈥橲 COMMUTE WAS AN EVEN BIGGER HEADACHE THAN USUAL. ALDOT CREWS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF WORKING TO ADD LANES TO I-59 BETWEEN CHALKVILLE ROAD AND 459. 米兰体育 13 LISA CRANE IS IN STORM COMMAND TONIGHT. WHAT鈥橲 IT LOOKING LIKE NOW? LISA? WELL, IT鈥橲 NOT GOOD BECAUSE WE ARE HITTING THAT RUSH HOUR. AGAIN, LET ME JUST GIVE YOU A LOOK FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE HERE. YOU CAN SEE WE鈥橰E ON 459 RIGHT NOW. JUST TRYING TO GET ON TO I-59. AND WE ARE CREEPING ALONG AT ABOUT SIX MILES AN HOUR RIGHT NOW. SO THIS IS PRETTY ROUGH. BUT THIS MORNING COMMUTERS TELL ME TRAFFIC ISSUES ARE WORSE THAN THEY鈥橵E EVER SEEN IT. SOME SPENT HOURS TRYING TO GET TO WORK. THIS IS DASHCAM VIDEO FROM A MOTORIST DURING HIS MORNING COMMUTE FROM TRUSSVILLE TO HOMEWOOD. EVEN IN HIGH SPEED, YOU CAN SEE HOW SLOW TRAFFIC WAS MOVING ON SECONDARY ROADS AND I-59. IT TOOK THIS DRIVER AN HOUR AND TEN MINUTES TO GET TO WORK, TWICE AS LONG AS LAST WEEK. TRUSSVILLE RESIDENT JULIE LANCASTER SAYS THEY鈥橵E BEEN DEALING WITH ROAD ROUTE ROULETTE FOR MONTHS, BUT THIS MORNING WAS THE WORST YET. WE HAVE A NEW DAILY MORNING GAME OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW WE鈥橰E GOING TO GET TO WORK. IT鈥橲 IT鈥橲 BEEN A PAIN. TO SUM IT UP. IT鈥橲 I MEAN, IT鈥橲 TRICKY BECAUSE THERE鈥橲 TEN DIFFERENT ROUTES AND THEY鈥橰E ALL GOING TO BE BACKED UP. TRUSSVILLE RESIDENT CANDACE AUSTIN SAYS IT WASN鈥橳 EVEN RUSH HOUR WHEN SHE GOT CAUGHT UP IN IT. EVEN AT 9:00, THAT WAS NOT NORMAL. NORMALLY, IT鈥橲 A CLEAR PATH, BUT IT WAS BACKED UP. I SAW SEMI TRUCKS ALL THE WAY, BACKED UP DEERFOOT LIKE IT WAS GOING BEYOND ARGO. SO IT WAS LIKE IT WAS GRIDLOCKED ON THE FREEWAY. THE WORK TO WIDEN THE SECTION OF I-59 FROM FOUR LANES TO SIX LANES WILL TAKE ANOTHER 18 MONTHS, BUT ALDOT OFFICIALS SAY IT WILL IMPROVE TRAFFIC FLOW IN THIS AREA. THAT鈥橲 WHAT THEY SAY. I鈥橪L BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT AT THIS POINT. I MEAN, IT鈥橲 PART OF THE GROWING PAINS, BUT WE鈥橰E WE鈥橰E READY TO GET TO WORK AT A DECENT TIME. IN THE MEANTIME, AUSTIN HAS SOME ADVICE SHE SAYS WILL HELP MOTORISTS IN THIS AREA KEEP THEIR COOL UNTIL LATE 2026. WAKE UP EARLY, OKAY? AND PREPARE YOURSELF. FIND YOUR BEST AND FAVORITE MUSIC AND TUNE IN AND PRAY THAT WE HAVE BETTER DAYS. NOW TAKE A LOOK. WE鈥橰E STILL ON THE RAMP TRYING TO GET ON TO I-59 NORTHBOUND. SO THIS IS OUTBOUND PEOPLE COMING HOME FROM WORK AND YOU CAN SEE HOW SLOW GOING IT IS RIGHT NOW. NOW, ALDOT SPOKESPERSON LINDA CROCKETT TOLD ME TODAY AN EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION EARLY THIS MORNING WAS THE CAUSE OF THE MASSIVE DELAY. ON SATURDAY, THEY PUT OUT A RELEASE ON THEIR WEBSITE ABOUT THE WORK HAPPENING IN THIS AREA THIS MORNING. BUT DRIVERS I SPOKE WITH TODAY SAID THEY WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE MORE NOTICE SO THEY CAN PLAN ACCORDINGLY TO GET TO WORK ON
