Joe Eatmon wins Tuscaloosa City Council runoff election, unseats incumbent Matthew Wilson
A new face has joined the Tuscaloosa City Council.
On Tuesday, Joe Eatmon won a runoff election to represent District 1, unseating the incumbent Matthew Wilson. Eatmon earned 582 votes while Wilson earned 407, according to the city's unofficial results.
"Thank you, thank you," exclaimed Eatmon in a social media post Tuesday evening. "I am honored to have been chosen by the people of this district to represent them as their city councilor. Your support and belief in me is humbling. As I have said on the campaign trail, I will work hard every day for everyone in every room making our community a better place!"
A Tuscaloosa native and longtime educator/coach, Eatmon is currently the Dean of Community Relations at Shelton State.
Wilson, who has held the seat since 2021, plans to remain a "powerful voice within our community."
"Tonight's election is over, votes are counted, and our campaign did not secure the win," he said in a post on Facebook. "However, our campaign and voters came back just as strong as they did the first round. This is indicative that our base is solid. It took multiple forces to come together to secure a win against us."
