Hurricane Ida made landfall Sunday afternoon near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, as a devastating Category 4 storm.With sustained winds of 150 mph, Ida, the fifth-strongest hurricane to ever hit the mainland U.S., brought devastating conditions to the Gulf Coast.One area hit particularly hard was Grand Isle, Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island.As seen in the video above, the island was slammed by Ida's devastating winds and massive flooding, with the National Hurricane Center predicting that Grand Isle could experience storm surge levels up to 12 to 16 feet.According to reports, more than 90% of the island's population evacuated before the storm. It's believed only about 75 residents remained on the island.Hurricane Ida arrived in Louisiana on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Category 3 storm that ravaged the region and led to the full-scale overhaul of the Gulf Coast's levee systems.
