Happy National Volunteer Month! Each April, we celebrate the incredible contributions of volunteers.
More than 20 years ago, volunteers helped transform the Madera County Landfill into a renowned paleontological site, discovering fossils from the Pleistocene Age. These fossils were estimated to be 500,000 to 780,000 years old.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers from the San Joaquin Valley Paleontology Foundation, 6,000 fossils were unearthed by 1997. When asked why he volunteered, one participant simply said, 鈥淚t鈥檚 fun to do!鈥�
