TONIGHT, FOOD BANKS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE NOW SCRAMBLING TO REPLACE MEALS AND FUNDING ABRUPTLY CUT IN RECENT WEEKS BY THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION. THIS DIRECTLY IMPACTING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN FEDERAL FUNDING FROM THE USDA. ONE OF THE FOOD BANKS THAT COULD BE IMPACTED HERE AT HOME. THE COMMUNITY FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL ALABAMA, WHICH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING MILLIONS OF MEALS EVERY YEAR. 米兰体育 13 BRYCE OSELEN, SPEAKING WITH THE FOOD BANK鈥橲 LEADERS TODAY ABOUT WHAT THESE CUTS WILL MEAN WHEN IT COMES TO PROVIDING THEIR SERVICES TO COUNTIES ALL ACROSS OUR AREA. IT鈥橲 PRETTY STRESSFUL FOR OUR TEAM. I HAVE TO BE HONEST. MONEY IS TIGHT FOR THE COMMUNITY. FOOD BANK OF CENTRAL ALABAMA. OUR BOARD, OUR DONORS, OUR VOLUNTEERS, OUR STAFF. EVERYBODY IS CONCERNED. THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE PLANS TO CUT MORE THAN $1 BILLION IN FUNDING FOR FEDERAL PROGRAMS AFFECTING FARMERS, SCHOOLS AND, YOU GUESSED IT, FOOD BANKS. IT鈥橲 A BIG BLOW TO THE FOOD BANK. NORMALLY, THESE SHELVES WOULD BE FILLED WITH ITEMS SUCH AS CANNED FRUIT, VEGETABLES. BUT AFTER FEDERAL CUTS, THE FOOD BANK IS MISSING OUT ON SERVING MORE THAN 2 MILLION MEALS. KNOWING THAT WE鈥橰E NOT ABLE TO TO BE THERE FOR PEOPLE LIKE WE WOULD LIKE TO BE, WE鈥橰E ALWAYS STRIVING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE鈥橰E FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS AND THAT WE ARE HERE FOR THOSE THAT NEED US. COMMUNITY FOOD BANK CEO NICOLE WILLIAMS SAYS THE ORGANIZATION WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITY. IF YOU NEED THE FOOD BANK, WE WILL STILL BE HERE FOR YOU. BUT THEY鈥橪L NEED A HELPING HAND TO DO SO. WE REALLY NEED THE COMMUNITY鈥橲 HELP. WE NEED THE COMMUNITY TO HELP US BY DOING A FOOD DRIVE, MAYBE BY DONATING FUNDS, WHICH WE CAN THEN USE TO PURCHASE FOOD. Money is growing tighter for the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama in Birmingham. The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to cut more than $1 billion in funding for federal programs, affecting farmers, schools, and, you guessed it, food banks.鈥淚t's a big blow to the food bank, knowing that we're not able to be there for people like we would like to be.
