Who is U.S. Rep Al Green, who was removed from President Trump's address to Congress?
U.S. Rep. Al Green of Texas was escorted out of President Trump's address to Congress on Tuesday after disrupting the speech.
鈥淭he presidential election of Nov. 5 was a mandate like has not been seen in many decades,鈥� Trump said as he began his speech.
鈥淵ou have no mandate,鈥� Green, a Democrat, countered.
Republicans quickly jumped to their feet with chants of 鈥淯SA! USA!鈥�
Green was then removed from the House chamber.
Republican members cheered at his removal, shouting 鈥淕et out!鈥� and 鈥淕oodbye!鈥� at the lawmaker. Green shouted, 鈥淵ou have no mandate to cut Medicaid!鈥� at Trump before police escorted him from the chamber.
Green is a member of the House of Representatives serving Texas's 9th congressional district. His district encompasses southwestern Houston and part of Fort Bend County.
He has been serving Texas as a representative since 2005.
