'I hope he's proud': Willie Mays' son discusses his legacy on the first birthday after his death
This is Willie Mays' first birthday since he died in 2024.
He would've been 94.
The Negro Southern League Museum will hold a hip-hop celebration at 5 p.m. for
Mays' son Michael says he feels full and can see that his dad's legacy lives on after his death.
"You know, a lot of people have to work on the feeling that they're, you know, understanding their parents are still with them. So, when we say to people when they have a loss, we always remind them that their loved ones are still with us. But with my dad, it's pretty obvious he's still around and he's still doing his thing," said Michael.
Michael is dedicated to helping underserved youth as a way to honor his dad's memory.

"We try to work with kids that are younger, 7 to 12, and just kind of follow dad's footsteps in that regard," said Michael.
He does that work through the which aims to provide underserved youth with safe spaces to play sports, sporting equipment and mentorship.
