Woman killed, man in custody after shooting in Pleasant Grove neighborhood
Police have a person in custody after a woman's shooting death in a Pleasant Grove neighborhood Monday.
It happened before 5:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Seventh Place.
When officers arrived, they found Devin Jamar Johnson, 31, of Pleasant Grove, standing in th front yard.
They saw a pistol lying on the roof of a nearby car, according to police.
When officers entered the home, they found Montease Yvonne Booker, 21, of Birmingham, with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
After officers spoke to Johnson and several witnesses, they took Johnson into custody. No motive is known at this time, according to police.
The Pleasant Grove Police Department is investigating the shooting. Johnson is being held in the Pleasant Grove city jail awaiting formal charging for murder with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office in Bessemer.
