'You always dream for it': Birmingham producer wins Grammy for rapper Killer Mike's album
GRAMMYS YESTERDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, ALL THE WINNERS FROM THE MAIN CEREMONY WERE WOMEN. AND WHILE THE NIGHT MAY HAVE BELONGED TO TAYLOR SWIFT, SZA AND MILEY CYRUS, A LOCAL MUSIC PRODUCER HAD HIS MOMENT IN THE SUN AFTER WINNING A GRAMMY FOR BEST RAP ALBUM. 米兰体育 13 MAGDALA LOUISSAINT SPOKE WITH HIM THIS AFTERNOON. HAS THE HONOR REALLY SET IN FOR HIM YET? MAGDALA. WELL, GUY AND SHERRI, HE鈥橲 STILL SOAKING THIS WIN IN. AND ACTUALLY LAST NIGHT, YOU KNOW, HE WAS ACTUALLY NOMINATED FOR TWO SONGS. NOW LUKE CROWDER TELLS ME HE IS GRATEFUL FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AND THAT HE BELIEVES THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY MORE TO COME. OR WHAT PART DID YOU MAKE? JUST LISTENING TO IT, THE KEYS THAT YOU HEAR, A LITTLE BIT OF STRINGS THAT鈥橲 UNDER IT, THAT MAIN CORE PIECE THAT YOU鈥橰E HEARING THAT鈥橲 THAT鈥橲 ME RIGHT THERE. YOU KNOW, AND THAT BASICALLY WAS THE, THE, THE MEAT THAT BASICALLY MADE THE REST OF IT COME TOGETHER. MUSIC PRODUCER LUKE CROWDER DIDN鈥橳 KNOW LAYING DOWN THAT MEDLEY ON THIS SOMETHING FOR JUNKIES TRACK FOR RAPPER KILLER MIKE WOULD LAND HIM A GRAMMY. YOU ALWAYS DREAM FOR IT. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT鈥橲 GOING TO HAPPEN. BUT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I鈥橵E BEEN PREPARING FOR AND PRAYING FOR ALL MY LIFE. SO I鈥橫 READY FOR IT. AND I鈥橫 GLAD THAT IT鈥橲 HAPPENING NOW. THE BIRMINGHAM NATIVE WAS IN TOWN PUMPING GAS WHEN HE GOT A TEXT THAT KILLER MIKE鈥橲 ALBUM WON BEST RAP ALBUM OF THE YEAR AT THE GRAMMYS. TOP OF THE CAR WASH, THE SONG FOR THE SHADE TREE SONG FOR MY UNCLE JEFF. THE 35 YEAR OLD STARTED IN CHURCH PLAYING THE PIANO AND DRUMS. THAT LED TO WORKING WITH LOCAL MUSIC ARTISTS IN BIRMINGHAM. DURING THAT, CROWDER BECAME KNOWN AS THE MAN WHO CREATES MEDLEYS. JUST LET ME KNOW THAT, HEY, IF I CAN DO IT, ANYBODY ELSE CAN DO IT. ANYBODY ELSE? AS YOUNG AS HIGH SCHOOL NEXT WEEK, CROWDER AND A NONPROFIT ARE ABOUT TO TAKE IN SOME HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACH THEM EARLY ABOUT MUSIC PRODUCING. I TRULY BELIEVE IN MY COMMUNITY. I BELIEVE IN BIRMINGHAM. I BELIEVE IN THE CREATORS HERE, AND I BELIEVE THAT I鈥橫 NOT JUST THE ONLY ONE. THERE鈥橲 SO MANY OTHER TALENTED PEOPLE, AND IF I CAN BE A GATE OPENER INSTEAD OF A GATEKEEPER HERE, YOU KNOW, I THINK THEY WILL NOT JUST BLESS ME, BUT EVERYBODY HERE. SO. SO WHAT鈥橲 NEXT FOR LUKE CROWDER? HE SAYS HE WANTS TO SEE MORE AND HE WANTS TO DREAM MORE. SO INSTEAD OF TWO GRAMMY NOMINATIONS LIKE HE EXPERIENCED THIS YEAR AT NEXT YEAR鈥橲 GRAMMYS, HE WANTS TO BE NOMINATED FOR FOUR. SO WE鈥橰E WISHING HIM THE BEST OF LUCK. WE鈥橰E
