Updated: 3:30 PM CDT Apr 17, 2025
I'm Lieutenant Wayne Curry and I supervise the detectives with the Tarrant Police Department. On the night in question, we arrived at *** very chaotic scene with the deceased male in the front yard. We canvassed the neighborhood looking for any witnesses or any videos that could possibly help us or aid us in this investigation. Uh, we contacted, uh, Detective Rouse who came out and did an admirable job canvassing the neighborhood and looking for any potential witnesses. Detective Rouse has actively worked this investigation along with his supervisor, Sergeant Morrow, and that he's developed some suspects in this situation where some arrest warrants were obtained, and I'm gonna let Sergeant Morrow, uh, tell you about uh part of the investigation. Good evening, I'm Cynthia Morrow, the sergeant over intern of investigations. Um, Detective Ross is an experienced, uh, detective. He did an outstanding job with this case, and I really don't have to say much else about it. He, um, did what he had to do, and he was able to get some leads which led to an arrest of this homicide, and I'll let him talk to you all about what he did. So regarding this, uh, the victim was Buford White, um, the family calls him Pete. So after the, the homicide and I responded, uh, there was *** vehicle that was located that pretty much that not early morning of the homicide. That along with *** lot of other evidence ended up leading to two individuals being identified as the suspects in this case. So the suspects are as um as listed, uh, Javas Russell Junior um of Birmingham, he is 19 years of age. Date of birth is gonna be 1-17-2006. The other individual is Eddie Jordan Jr. of Utah, Alabama. He is also 19 years of age. His date of birth is 5-12-2005. They are both believed to be currently um somewhere in the Birmingham area. There is an active investigation as far as trying to locate these individuals. Um, they both have capital murder warrants with Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, uh, due to these uh charges. So at this time we're just asking that the public help out Crime Stoppers was notified. Um, about these individuals, and they both have *** warrants, there's gonna be *** monetary reward for the, for the capture or any evidence or information leading up to their capture. So we, we kind of help, as for the citizens now to anything you got or if you know where these individuals may be, please contact the police department at 205-849-2811 or reach out to Crime Stoppers. Thank you. With that, I just wanna say we want the police department wanna give our condolence to the White family. Mr. White was *** member of our community and we did this department came together as *** team to locate and identify the individuals we believe are responsible for his death, and we believe now that they need to be apprehended and answered to the court for their behavior and we just wanna. Request that the community reach out and uh locate these individuals so we can get them into custody so that they can answer for this heinous crime. It has been devastating to the family and we just wanna make sure that these people answer for their actions here in town. Also, I'd like to, uh, you know, thank our, uh, patrol who worked really hard in, in gathering information. They came together, worked really well as *** team, but I'd also really like to uh show appreciation to Detective Rouse. He's worked tirelessly on this. Uh, he's been, uh, keeping the family informed. And, and he's just done *** really good job and he's we've had the help of other entities, other law enforcement entities as well, but, uh, uh, I just really appreciate the hard work that he's put into this. This detectives will understand that, but this case was *** case with very little information and detect. rouse diligence and hard work is what made the difference for the family to identify these individuals and now we need the community's help and bringing them before the court so they can answer for it so this family can get closure and we can present whatever evidence we have about their involvement in this death to the court and they can answer to *** jury of their peers. What makes y'all think that they're still in the area? So there there is some, I, I can't release the exact way that we're getting intel, but there is some intel that does feed into me. Um, as that intel comes in, I released that intel to the US Marshals and other individuals who are actively searching for these guys, um. According to the intel, according to some other things that we're looking at, that's kind of what believes us to believe that they're still in the Birmingham area. I will say this, uh, Detective Robbins is able to obtain warrants on the 14th of March, and we've been actively looking for those individuals, so we've exhausted our ability as individuals to do it here at the department. So what we need the public's help to them. These people are gonna be at family gatherings somewhere with people who know who they are, so we need the public. To identify the identify these individuals, let us know where they are. There are warrants actively held by the sheriff's office, Jefferson County Sheriff's office. If you just locate your local law enforcement, do not approach these individuals. We believe them to be armed and dangerous, and as they have shown the propensity to use force, and we want to make sure we get them in custody safe and sound so that they can answer for this crime. Do you mind holding up the scoop closer to the desk and just hold up the two pictures they're right there. No Just one at *** time and I need the correct spelling. OK, so this is, uh, this individual is gonna be Eddie Jordan Junior. Uh, the spelling on that is gonna be E D D I E, Jordan, J O R D *** N. OK. And this individual is gonna be Javas Russell, J *** V *** R I S. Russell is gonna be R U S S E L L. And are y'all gonna send those to the station, these mug shots. I can, OK, it'd be great. Um, the, with the suspects identified, is there any, um, prior criminal history or reason why, um, besides obviously what they're suspect for that they may be *** threat to the public. So aside from this, now, I do know that uh Eddie Jordan, there's actually Some other agencies that have, uh, this isn't the only murder that he's being accused of, um, so there's actually some other investigations that's going on with him as well, um, other than minor crimes aside from this, um, this would be, of course, the most serious. I know, um, you guys talked about um the victim being *** member of the community and as far as I know this is the only um homicide to happen in in Tarrant this year. um, what does it mean to finally kind of to have those suspects, right, even if they aren't in custody? Yeah, we, we've had these warrants, uh, since March 14th. We've been holding off announcing to the public about this hard work that Detective Rouse has done in the in the patrol division investigative had done. Only because we want to make sure of locating the individual and the element of surprise would be, would be the best. But after *** month, we realized that that's not there. These individuals are probably evading because they are aware that someone is aware of their involvement in this crime. So we are very proud of the work that that these individuals have done, but we believe that because of the nature of this crime, it's *** capital offense that we need to get these people in custody as quickly as possibly can so that the harm to the public is minimized and only because of that are we announcing you, we need your help, we need the public's help in finding these people because they have to answer to the public for their behavior. Did y'all say that Russell was already accused of murder, not Russell, the other one, Eddie Jordan. Eddie, so where, where is he accused? I, I'm not. I know the information, but I don't want to release someone else's case, um, so I'm not gonna release any information on that, um. Uh, I don't know what they want. They don't know what other agency discuss what they know and what they want out in the public because we don't want to harm their investigation and justice for that family as well. What's your confidence that the community is gonna step up and I'm 10%. Announcing this, we, we will, I believe that this community will come together, identify these individuals and make sure they're safely taken into custody and that they can answer for their crime. And we can have justice. We can't have it unless we all participate and this community has done it before and they'll do it again. They'll identify these individual. Crime Stoppers is the best way to communicate, but of course you can contact us here at the Tenant Police Department. It's 205-849-2811. That's 205-849-20282811. Contact us. But preferably contact. Crime Stoppers so that we can identify these individuals and get them off the street and make our community safer.
