Crestline residents looking for new ways to stop the current construction of walking trail in their neighborhood
Crestline neighborhood residents are now looking for options to stop the construction of the Shades Creek Way that began at the beginning of April.
More than two dozen Crestline residents gathered for their neighborhood association meeting Thursday.
They took their concerns about the Shades Creek Greenway to India Bailey, who is the chief of staff for Councilman Hunter Williams, who is over the district.
"I am very concerned about the environmental effects of what this trail can have," one resident said. "It's going to be asphalt and it's right by Shades Valley Creek."
"It's ridiculous now to come and say, oh well, 65 years later, we're going to build a big road in your backyard," another resident said. "It's not a trail, it's a road. And it's going to be 25 feet from the closet wall to my house."
While residents made their voices heard, Bailey said she could not answer any of their questions because the city has learned a resident has retained legal counsel on the issue.
"Every single answer, every issue, every issue now has to be directed to the Office of the City Attorney," Bailey said. "I can not speak at all about the project any longer with any of you. That's really unfortunate because I would like to speak with you guys because there is a lot of misinformation about what's going on, and the trail will be built because it's on the city right of way."
Residents are now just hopeful that some amendments can be made before the construction continues.
There is now an effort underway by residents to get a petition sent to the city.
