Crestline residents looking for new ways to stop the current construction of walking trail in their neighborhood

Crestline residents looking for new ways to stop the current construction of walking trail in their neighborhood
WELL, TONIGHT ONE COMMUNITY IS BANDING TOGETHER AS CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON A NEW WALKING TRAIL IN BIRMINGHAM鈥橲 CRESTLINE NEIGHBORHOOD. SINCE CONSTRUCTION ON THE TRAIL BEGAN LAST MONTH, RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT FLOODING ISSUES, EVEN LOSING SOME OF THE NATURAL SPACE THAT THEY ONCE HAD IN THEIR BACKYARDS. 米兰体育 13 S GLADYS BAUTISTA IS LIVE AND LOCAL TONIGHT, FOLLOWING A COMMUNITY MEETING TO DISCUSS THOSE RESIDENTS CONCERNS. GLADYS WHAT ARE THEY HOPING TO ACCOMPLISH? WELL, SHERI GUY, RIGHT NOW THEY JUST WANT TO STOP THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE TRAIL AS IS. HOPEFULLY MAKE SOME AMENDMENTS TO IT. BUT THE QUESTION THEY ALL HAVE IS WHETHER THAT鈥橲 EVEN POSSIBLE. LET鈥橲 TAKE YOU INSIDE THAT MEETING. MORE THAN TWO DOZEN CRESTLINE RESIDENTS GATHERED FOR THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING. AND THIS IS WHERE ALL OF THIS WENT DOWN. THEY TOOK THEIR CONCERNS ABOUT THE SHADES CREEK GREENWAY TO INDIA. BAILEY, CHIEF OF STAFF FOR COUNCILMAN HUNTER WILLIAMS, WHO IS OVER THE DISTRICT. MANY OF THE CONCERNS SURROUNDING FLOODING NEAR THEIR HOMES, AS YOU MENTIONED, AND THE IMPACT THE ASPHALT TRAIL WOULD HAVE ON THE WILDLIFE. I鈥橫 VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF WHAT THIS TRAIL CAN HAVE. THERE鈥橲 IT鈥橲 GOING TO BE ASPHALT AND IT IS RIGHT BY. SAGE VALLEY CREEK. IT鈥橲 RIGHT THERE AND IT鈥橲 IN THE FLOODPLAIN. IT鈥橲 RIDICULOUS. NOW, A COMMON SIGHT. OH, WELL, 65 YEARS LATER, WE鈥橰E GOING TO COME BUILD A BIG ROAD IN YOUR BACKYARD. IT鈥橲 NOT A TRAIL. IT鈥橲 A ROAD. AND IT鈥橲 GOING TO BE 25FT FROM MY BACK. FROM THE CLOSEST WALL TO MY HOUSE. IT WILL ABSOLUTELY FIND A WAY TO ANYTHING WE CAN TO INDIA. BAILEY IS SAYING TO THE RESIDENTS THAT SHE COULD NOT ANSWER ANY OF THEIR QUESTIONS BECAUSE THE CITY HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY A RESIDENT WHO HAS SOUGHT LEGAL COUNSEL ON THIS ISSUE. EVERY SINGLE QUESTION, EVERY ISSUE, EVERY CONCERN NOW HAS TO BE DIRECTED TO THE OFFICE OF THE CITY ATTORNEY. I CANNOT SPEAK AT ALL ABOUT THE PROJECT ANY LONGER WITH ANY OF YOU. AND ALSO. THAT鈥橲 REALLY UNFORTUNATE BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH YOU GUYS, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF MISINFORMATION ABOUT WHAT鈥橲 GOING ON. AND THE TRAIL IS GOING TO BE BUILT BECAUSE IT IS ON CITY RIGHT OF WAY. SO YOU JUST HEARD IT THERE. THE CONSTRUCTION HAS ALREADY BEGUN. SO RESIDENTS SAY THEY WOULD HOPE TO MAYBE GET SOME AMENDMENTS THERE, MAYBE CHANGE IT UP. BUT OF COURSE THAT IS ALL THAT ALL WILL BE DETERMINED LATER ON. RIGHT NOW, THERE IS AN EFFORT UNDERWAY TO GET A PETITION SIGNED BY RESIDENTS TO SEND IT TO THE CITY. LIVE IN OUR CONTROL ROOM.

Crestline residents looking for new ways to stop the current construction of walking trail in their neighborhood
Crestline neighborhood residents are now looking for options to stop the construction of the Shades Creek Way that began at the beginning of April. More than two dozen Crestline residents gathered for their neighborhood association meeting Thursday. They took their concerns about the Shades Creek Greenway to India Bailey, who is the chief of staff for Councilman Hunter Williams, who is over the district."I am very concerned about the environmental effects of what this trail can have," one resident said. "It's going to be asphalt and it's right by Shades Valley Creek.""It's ridiculous now to come and say, oh well, 65 years later, we're going to build a big road in your backyard," another resident said. "It's not a trail, it's a road. And it's going to be 25 feet from the closet wall to my house." While residents made their voices heard, Bailey said she could not answer any of their questions because the city has learned a resident has retained legal counsel on the issue. "Every single answer, every issue, every issue now has to be directed to the Office of the City Attorney," Bailey said. "I can not speak at all about the project any longer with any of you. That's really unfortunate because I would like to speak with you guys because there is a lot of misinformation about what's going on, and the trail will be built because it's on the city right of way."Residents are now just hopeful that some amendments can be made before the construction continues. There is now an effort underway by residents to get a petition sent to the city.
